Loving the game so far, but...Follow

I have enjoyed this game for the past week that I have owned it. The only problem I am currently having, is sticking with one particular career! I have leveled a squig herder the highest thus far (rank 12), however, I have found myself not wanting to play it as much. I followed that character with a Black Orc (rank 10 as my second highest). I have played almost every destruction class so far for a few ranks and nothing has taken my full interest as of yet...

I am the type of person that cares about my character's overall "Image" (i.e. armor looks, character model, weapons, character name). My favorite all time race in a fantasy setting MMO is dwarves. I love the gritty and tough look to them! However, I will be playing with a friend and we decided to roll destruction this time around (always have played the "good" guys in other MMO's in the past).

One race that has stood out on destruction side for me has been the Chaos and Goblins. I think I will end up leveling a Goblin Shaman and/or a Chaos (insert career). The magus looks interesting, and reminds me a bit like a Necromancer (the image). Have any of you played a Magus past rank 10 or higher yet? I would love to get some feedback on that career!

Anyway, great game so far... Just need to narrow down to one or two careers max to play :)

You are not the only one, while I selected order as my side on Ironfist, I switch back and forth between my Assassin 15, White lion 12, Witch Hunter 12, and Engineer 9. I just play them as I see fit and as the mood strikes me.

Liter, lvl 20 Bright Wizard of Divinity
Ledarr, lvl 22 Shadow Assassin of Captains Hammers Fan Club
Laserus, lvl 22 Witch Hunter of Legendary Warriors
Yenkin, lvl 17 White Lion

I was the same way when I first started. I didn't know what I wanted to play but I must have started half a dozen toons. I finally settled on a shaman, partly because I wanted to get the frick out of tier 1 scenarios but mostly because I love the character they have. When they get smacked around, when they detaunt, funny stuff! <3 gobbos.

Check out their /special.

As for magus, I've read they could use some buffs (compared to their mirror class, which is the engineer), but I really don't want to pass that off as truth, because it's typical of regular forum banter to request for improvements.

I have terrible alt-itis, and it's no different in WAR. I have 7 order toons and 7 dest toons I float between, and their levels are only 5-21 because I have so many. But I simply can't pick just ONE class, they are all so much fun! I was leaning towards a White Lion, but once again they have fubar'd that class and it's pet up so much that the fun factor is back in the toilet until it's fixed. *sigh*

Anyways, nothing says you have to pick just ONE class. If you're happy floating around between several, go ahead and do that. Not like you have to be 40 soon, or that you can't enjoy the RvR, PQs, Senarios and questing at lower levels, too.

One of the friends I play with has level 20 Magus, and he is loving it. He says the class is definately not OP, but that's it's far from weak either. I play a DoK, and we usually do very well in Scenarios.

Having said that, I wouldn't worry so much about how strong the class is. If MMOs teach you one thing it's that class balance is fickle. It changes quickly, and today's weaksauce is often tomorrow's fotm. So go for what you enjoy the most playing. even if you're a bit weak, chances are you'll be stronger after a few patches. I played a Shadow Warrior to level 18, and I absolutely loved it. Everyone kept saying how gimp the class was, but I had a real blast. I'd much rather play a challenging class than one where you sit back, press two buttons, and come out top damage.

I myself have a level 18 Zealot, and a 17 Chosen. Between the two of them, I enjoy the Zealot more, just because of it's ability to run into crowds in Mourkain Temple and just AoE DoT everything and toss a couple AoE Heals around. The Chosen was remarkably fun at lower levels, as I ran around with a Shaman friend and would tear apart groups of Engineers and Bright Wizards.

I've also been dabbling with playing a Magus and Witch Elf, but haven't really gotten far enough to make conclusions about either class. I have noticed, however, that in Scenarios, the Magus gets focus fired first, probably because the disc helps to single them out.

Well, when you point that out, they say their whine applies only to PvP. Then when you point out that SW are great in T1 and T2, they say their whine only applies to T3-T4 PvP.

"They" being posters on Warhammer alliance forums, not the CIA. Just thought I'd throw that out for all you conspiracy theorists out there.

/shrug. I don't know, I had a blast with my SW, though I wasn't in T3, so maybe they're right. Still, the point is not to pay too much attention to class balance at this stage, since these things always get adjusted over time.

I have six characters but the one that I have leveled the highest is my goblin shaman. I love the guys character as well as the class mechanic. It is an interesting class to play and it lets you choose how you want to run with it.

Well, which look do you prefer more? A caster image or a fighter image? If your going for a good fighter image Chaos Chosen look pretty sweet and have some nice abilities rather you go 2hander or 1h/shield... just throwing out a suggestion.

I have an archmage, bright wizard, sorceress, and magus rolled up. While I am enjoying the archmage very much, I am sure I'll enjoy the others as well.

Thanks for all the replies folks :)

I have almost played a little of each career at this point (played a few new ones last night on Order side lol)! I love the image of the Chosen. However, I am unsure if I would like to tank or not. I had a level capped Dwarf Doombringer (aka-Paladin) in old Everquest Online Adventures (PS2) in which I enjoyed.

I honestly think I may in fact end up rolling and sticking with a Shaman. However, I also am considering a Chosen or Magus for destruction. I was interested in the sorcerer but I dislike the dark elf character models. I also played around a bit with a Dwarf engineer and I found it fun and interesting to play. So depending on what my friend wants to do, I may roll that for Order :)

On a side note and off topic... My friend recently experienced problems getting into the game and actually being able to play it on his computer. He said when he did actually get passed the loading screen, the graphics were horrible and almost unplayable. He also told me he had no cursor on his screen! I guess he was booted off at 2 minutes of play like that... He has a windows vista experience rating of 5.1 and his system is the following:

Vista OP
2GB Ram (meets requirement, but I told him to get more, which he plans to upgrade soon)
256 MB Nvidia 7800 GTS (maybe an 8800 GTS I dont remember, but it has 256 MB for sure)
2.13 Ghtz Duo-core CPU (He falls short in this department I know... But would this cause the problem he experienced?)

Sorry to get off topic on that, but any comments would be appreciated guys :)

Thanks again everyone!
