Goldselling scum alreadyFollow

#1 Sep 22 2008 at 11:01 PM Rating: Excellent
Is anybody else getting this?
Tonight for the last hour and a half I was hit multiple times by the same piece of scum.
Ignore didn't work.
Reporting did nothing.
I was hounded by this piece of crap so much that I finally logged out for the night.
I AM FURIOUS.
I can't report them or ignore them, but must simply be hit over and over with this bull UNTIL I LOG OUT??

Are there any mod writers out there?
Anybody want to take a shot at writing a goldseller spam ignore that actually works??

I've had it for tonight.
So much for my relaxing vacation.

I got a couple of tells from these punks the other night. The first one I did a search to see where they were and then checked every so often to see if they logged (which they hadn't). On the second one, I replied back with, "Reported" and they logged instantly. But unfortunately when I actually started to report them, the system would not take the report because the character was no longer online.

Yes, I encountered two so far over the course of steady play. Ignore did work both times though, unless the two of them just intended to send one message anyway. Reporting might actually mean something for now, as there is nothing like the WoW plague of unaccountable open trials (i.e., Blizzard's open invites to gold sellers in Org and SW), at least as far as I'm aware. Having to keep paying for another account would obviously not be good for business unless they were already profiting on a large scale (bans could even cripple several Asian and Eastern European economies!). Whether Mythic will really put resources into curbing this at this time is an open question. I would hope so. The sooner the better, no doubt.

Burned at the stake for sedition, I think, was the message I was getting on my screen.

I do like seeing Mythic take action against the spammers. Simply report them and hope they get caught.

However....it's quite annoying to get multiple popups when you are trying to win a scenario.

It's extremely annoying, but what is almost more annoying are the messages about the gold-sellers and Mythic's awareness of them, lol.

i like the little pop up messages that say 3 players have been Burned at the stake for sedition. its just a quick click to clear but it shows that mythic is doing something about the problem, sure they're not going to get them all but hopefully it'll make the gold sellars hide and not be such "panhandlers" Plus who buys gold is so easy to make money in this game????

Sunday I got several tells within a short period of time from two people, after harassing one of them for a while, I sent off two reports in game complaining about the gold spammers. I kept playing and got another tell from one of the two people, so I /ignored them both, and didn't have any problems after that.

I hoped Mythic would add a option of /reporting a person for spam sales, DDO has this feature and it makes reporting them much easier!

I can't stand gold or exp spammers!

Glad the system seems to be working for you guys, because it wasn't for me.
I was repeatedly hounded last night for over an hour and a half until I LOGGED OUT in disgust and frustration.
And it was the SAME TOON that was doing it.
Again, ignore didn't work. If it did, I would have been happy to wait for EA/Mythic to deal with it.

Hmm, so those random popups that don't seem to make any sense whatsoever is Mythic's way of announcing gold sellers being dealt with?

You know, when Vanguard started getting gold farmers again, people saw it as the health of the game picking up again : ) For some time, you couldn't find plat/gold to buy, from what I read.

The popups are kinda silly though, for me. I'd rather it just be dealt with quietly...just make 'em go away! And get /ignore working. Because that jerk I reported for /say ALL CAPS all sorts of racial slurs? And his friend who badly /emoted spitting on us? Yeah, well, they followed us to another PQ after we left the first one and continued it. I'd rather have ignore work than to constantly report the same jerks!

Ignore wasn't working for me either. I reported the guy, sent a second CSR ticket pointing out that /ignore doesn't work, and sent a bug report about /ignore not working.

I don't know if they fixed something last night, but when I got a tell today, I ignored the guy and that was the last I heard of him. It's possible he just left, but I'm hoping ignore got fixed.

They should change that title to something more relavent. I understand what they are getting at but I'm not being snobby when I put people on ignore, I just wanna ignore the, "Can I have some gold?" or now ofcourse gold spammers. The title should be "The Irritated One."

/ignore seemed to work for me. I got 3-4 tells in a row from some punk goldseller. I put them on ignore and it stopped. I'm not sure how to report though. I was rather disappointed at the lack of options I got when I Rclicked on the person's name in the chat log. Had to type out /ignore <spammer's name>. probably an easier way but I did not spend time searching. So used to WoW I don't know where anything is lol.

The web site he/she was propping was <guess I'll edit the name out might be bad form to list it> and it was for gold and powerleveling. One week and they're already setting up camp. **** scavengers....

....I spoke too soon. /ignore did not work at all. The gold seller has been sending me tells for around 3 hours now. I finally looked around and figured out how to make an "appeal". No response so far but maybe they will do something. Just fixing the /ignore feature would be adequate. I don't like it, of course, but I have been living with gold sellers in MMOs for years. Being able to ignore would make me happy for now cause this is just silly.

With the default key mapping you type o (as in ostrich)

this brings up the social windows, select the ignore tab and type the fiend's name in the field. I honestly believe it has been working fine for me.

Ignore has worked well for the /tells to me. Although, I doubt each one of them tried to even send me another tell after that first one. :o

The popups letting me know they caught them are actually more annoying than the spams themselves, in my opinion. If they take care of the issue and we actually see results, that's more important to me than getting popups letting me know when they do catch some.

One thing that does concern me more is how it will impact open parties. I made an open party for a PQ earlier and had a spammer join the party, spam and leave party right away. I'm not too sure how it works right now but I hope there are or will be level restrictions to join open parties for PQs according to the zone/tier so that level 1 spammers can't join just any open party accross zones to spam.

My friend was wondering why he was receiving gold seller tells on one character and not on another. The reason: one was /anon and the other wasn't. I went anonymous and found my gilselling woes alleviated.

I guess that would help Angry, with the anon. Some days, it is not so bad, but other days, it is just painful. My /ignore list is full from them, and it rarely works. I got hit by someone I reported 2 days ago about 20 times in 2 hours.

I don't understand what takes them so long to ban these people. If they are reported...shouldn't all they have to do is check their chat log and if they sent out 50 tells about it in the past 5 minutes...ban them. What kind of investigation is needed for something like this.

I would hope it gets better on higher level toons...that they are just targeting me what seems more b/c I created a bunch of alts for crafting purposes.

Hopefully they will offer an auto report function like LOTRO, just click the name select report and off it goes, the name is auto put into ignore.

Its amazing how fast these guys get organized.

Oh, I'm getting gold adverts non-stop now. Makes me want to reach through the internet and strangle those ********.

The patch notes mentioned something about an "appeal" or whatever, to report such spam with. I tried right-clicking the chatter's name in the chat window (old WoW player), but all I got was a drop-down menu for the chat window itself.

Anyone know how to use this new report tool?

I got spam me not from curse and that worked fairly well. It reported 44 gold spams in one day for me. Thats excessive. I also went into the options on the social panel, (type the letter O) and went under options tab. I think if you change the options to anonymous and hidden, that will also help you a lot. The problem seems pervasive in most any game, but I never saw it so fast and furious. Wow! Give your payment information to a hacker...? Who buys this gold?

Yeah, I noticed they're pretty bold about spamming you in /tell. Just report them. It won't take too long for the GMs to get into the swing of things. All it takes is a little research on how things are handled on other games. It should get knocked down to a dull roar soon enough.

Ignore is not working for me either. And as if the constant spamming isn't enough, the other day I got something in the mail from one! How bold are they going to get?

I finally just filtered tells out of my text box. I really didn't want to do it, but until this is fixed, I don't want to see another one, or I will scream.

I got a number of these /tells last night almost as soon as I made myself visible. I didn't really care... it was more of an annoyance than anything. I left myself visible in case anyone was looking for someone to party up with. I reported the culprit. The URL is www.sevengold.com and, I believe, www.wow7gold.com. I say this not to promote the apltly named "scum" but rather to keep us all aware of who they are.

I do have one thought though... report them using the feedback system but don't let the gold seller know that you've reported them. Give the system time to work. If they immediately log off, then the game administrators might not be able to catch them in the act. I don't know this for sure, but it makes sense not to tip the gold seller. Let them keep doing their thing and just ignore them after you've reported them.

I will continue to keep myself visible as the /tells are merely an annoyance. I want to be visible to the community in case anyone wants to party up or asks for assistance on some missions, PQ, etc.

One more added thought... it took me a bit to figure out how to report the gold seller. Perhaps Mythic should make this a little easier to find on the menu.

The new version of SpamMeNot also automatically reports them, not just blocks them. It's a great addon and it helps get rid of them too. I can't wait till Mythic gets in gear and gets rid of those slimeballs.

I hate gold sellers/spammers. No, that’s not strong enough, let me try again. I HATE GOLD SELLERS WITH EVERY FIBER OF MY BEING. Ah, that’s better. Now, why do I hate them you may ask? I hate them for a number of reasons, most of which have been detailed in various interviews I’ve done over the years. And now that they have taken their obnoxiousness to new levels with gold service spamming, I HATE GOLD SPAMMERS EVEN MORE NOW THAN EVER BEFORE. For years, lowlifes like IGE have told us, in defense of their behavior, that they a) are just providing a service; b) don’t interfere with players enjoyment of the game. Well, I can’t argue with (a), they are providing a service, just like maggots I suppose but I’ve always argued that (b) is totally and complete BS. Now, those old arguments aside, I can’t see how this new generation of pond scum (new and improved, with 25% more scummy action!) can argue that their constant spamming of chat channels doesn’t interfere with players enjoyment of the game (I’m waiting for the whole “Oh, you can always just turn off chat” argument). I hated seeing their messages when I played WoW or any other MMO and I’ve been waiting for the day that WAR launched so I could have the absolute pleasure of instituting policies to make their lives more difficult so we could drive them out of WAR.

Since WAR launched we have been banning these jerks like crazy. As of Saturday Night, we had banned about 400 of them. My CSRs have a zero tolerance policy. We don’t wait and let them stay in the game and ban them en-masse, my guys ban their useless, time-consuming butts right away. We have a strike team whose sole job it is to get these guys off our servers as quickly as possible. This weekend, we unveiled a new wrinkle in the fight against them, the public ban message. Players on our Phoenix Throne server have been treated to special messages when a gold seller/spammer is banned. I’ve given them a wide leash to come up with creative messages to tell the entire community who has been banned and we keep it within the Warhammer universe. Messages like “Tchar’zanek has ordered the slaughter of [Spammer] and all others of his kind who weaken the Raven Host by providing wealth and power to the unworthy” have been seen all weekend. We will continue this policy and expand it to the other servers. We are in for a real fight against these bottom feeders and it will be a long and costly battle but it’s one we are going to take to them and this is only the first step. After all, this is WAR…

BTW, for those who might be tempted to think that we are doing this so we could offer our own service or because we do make money off their boxes (traditionally, gold sellers will quickly shift to buddy disks and free trials though to lower their costs) let me tell you this. I’ve been offered “a piece of the action” both personally and corporately in the past if I will either turn a blind eye or help them in their actions. This would have netted me and/or Mythic a very, very tidy sum, far more than we would see from box sales. My answer was and always will remain the same:

Go to ****.

I don't know about you guys, unlike WoW, I feel great helping, and feel my reporting of /tells I get, get resolved!

Their system for reporting and dealing with spammers hopefully will get better soon. The last thing I need to do is try to retype an annoying name to report them. It also doesn't help that I reported several people on Sunday and 8 hours later when I logged back in I got tell bombed by them again. Awesome. Clearly their system doesn't work.

I hate to be a wet blanket here, but I've been pestered by the same spammer on my server Rakarth for 3 full days now. I can't ignore him or his cohorts, and it seems you have to manually type the cretin's name and his message into the complaint form, which I did a few times now over the course of these 3 days. I finally got spammenot from curse, and it's doing the job. It reports the first spam from a player, and blocks them all so I don't have to see them. Still, It's very discouraging to look in the spammenot log and find the same spammers day after day.

All this talk of "public executions" must be taking place on one server, because it's not happening on mine.

On Bechafan itself, I recieved a days worth of tells from 2 gold spammers. I had opened a ticket, and reported each time they spammed me, and the time. Is it time consuming? Yes, but I don't mind helping, to do what I can.

The next morning, the ticket was answered, and an email sent to me, stating my issue was handed over to a task force for review. I never heard from the spammers again.

I haven't seen a message about anyone being burned at the stake for sedition in a while. It could be that there are so many now, they know the novelty of getting a popup every 2 mins saying someone is being executed, would wear off really fast.
