Being a Dutchmen it hasn't been possible for me to get my hands on a European pre-order kit yet.
So I'm basicallyy filling my time with levelling my Shammy in WoW and waiting for WAR to be released.

Ofcourse the first thing to do when a new MMORPG appears is to choose which career I'm going to play.
I've read up lots of stuff and at the moment I'm thinking of rolling either a Witch Hunter or a Disciple of Khaine.
As I don't have hands-on info I was wondering if there were some Witch hunters and DoK's here who could fill me in.

Just lend me your thoughts on what you think about the class mechanics and the pro's/cons.

Thanks in Regard.

Well for look of the character.... Witch Hunter wins hands down.

That being said... I rolled a WH, and honestly did not like the class to much :( The gun really did not do much. I was thinking in the early levels the gun would have done a lot more.

What we always tell people in WoW forums is "Roll both, level it up a little, see what one you like". You can get to level 5 in like a hour... maybe less. I really am enjoying my lv11 or 12 lol, can't remember, Bright Wizard. That's some pewpewpew fun.... but sadly no healing.

Starting out, you might want to roll a healer type. Until they fine tune the healing out of combat, it's rough getting aggro right after 2 fights in a row with no healing. My other 'higher' toon is a Zealot... Now that's a fun class too. It's the one carrying the skull and dagger. I'd suggest trying that one too.

That's why I was thinking of rolling a DoK, it looks like the most combat-able healer.
Mainly because I have played a Paladin in WoW, I usually don't like to play classes who aren't able to rescue them selves and I've heard a lot of stuff about the WH being a WoW rogue clone, which I find boring as hell.

The witch hunter is similar to WoW's rogue, or LOTRO's champion, in that it has a combo point system, where you build points (Accusations, here) and release them (Executions). The beautiful change is though, that you can transfer your points from target to target. I don't know if it's intentional or not, but killing a Zealot with point builders, then finishing off that pesky Magus off in the distance was one of my favorite parts of leveling a Witch Hunter up.

That being said, I myself am torn between playing a White Lion (Which sorta plays out like a mix between DAoC's Valewalker, and WoW's Hunter) and the Warrior Priest/Disciple of Khaine. I like the aesthetics of both classes, and how they play, but I'm not 100% sure which I like more.

I have been playing a Disciple of Khaine and I LOVE it.
I think they look awesome. I love the Hellraiser-style Cenobyte leather bondage dresses they wear. I love the fact that this is a healer that is dual wielding SWORDS, for crying out loud.
She looks awesome.
She will twist your soul with magic, slice your face open, and heal herself when she gets down. Get her on a Killing Spree and let the bodies fly. I had a bunch of mobs come at me and I just kept killing and killing...every now and then healing myself. When all was said and done, I had a neat semicircle of about a dozen corpses sparkling at my feet, ready to loot. Amazing.
I also come from WoW and played Rogue, Paladin, and Priest (shadow and then holy). I think the Witch Elf is almost a direct comparison to Rogue. Disciple of Khaine is feeling sort of like either a ret paladin in WoW crossed with a Disc or Shadow priest. She's not as tough as a paladin, but not as squishy as a priest.

Hope this helps.

Oh, and...

That's her on the right.
On the left is my Witch Elf and in the middle is the crackmonkey Chaos Zealot.

I rolled a Bright wizard on day 1, played it for a few days to lev 13. I liked it but then since I was undecided between Witch hunter and Bright wizard before open beta, I decided to try Witch Hunter.

I'm loving Witch Hunter. Im gonna be rolling it first when game day begins. Currently at lev 13 and I love the Gun abilties they have. Gyfford did you get your WH to the level with the cool gun move? the name evades me atm but I think it's a lev 12 ability. One hand pulling the trigger and the other hitting the hammer repeatedly.

Also there is another gun one that you get early before lev 10 and it can take a chunk of some destruction butt.

update level 12 ability Trial by pain. Other gun ability still can't remember what level before 10 maybe it was level 10 I dunno but its Absolution.

Every class has a class mechanic that makes them slightly different to the others, although the opposing realm has a similar class for every type.

I'd suggest you play a few and see what you like. Bear in mind, no class in any MMO plays the same way 1-10 as it does at the higher ranks, so don't dismiss a class after playing it for only a few ranks.

It's not hard to get from 1-11 in a single days play, its not til the end of teir 2, start of teir 3 that it slows down a bit.

So far I've played an Ironbreaker, White Lion, Warrior Priest and Bright Wizard (only to rank 5 though for BW.) My Iron Breaker is my favourite and its the one I'll be going with at release.

Good to see someone from WoW replied.

Now that's good information. I have been ret paladin a couple of times, mainly to level him though, and I like the idea of being a melee-fighter whilst also being capable of dashing out some magic damage and heals. Ret paladins dissapointed me though, it eventually all came down to white melee damage and seal procs. But the combo with a Shadow Priest definitely sounds better.

I'll probably start out as a BoK and then try either Witch elf or a Squig herder(as being order is not an option any more, thanks to some friends who desperately want to roll Destruction).

Thanks for all the helpful posts, this should be sufficient. Thanks!
