Thinking Of JoiningFollow

Hello everyone.

I am a very experienced mmo player and want a change of pace and am thinking of trying out DAOC.

I have a few questions first.

What is the most fun part of the game? I have heard that the game truly starts at level 50 so how many hours of real life time would that take on an average. I also enjoy characters that are combo mele/offensive magic such as the shammy in WOW (should be renamed "boring"). I also need a class that can solo well as certain days I will only have 2 hours to play due to job. I LOVE soloing machines. If anyone could also break down the different types of servers and the difference between them I would appreciate it.

Hope to hear from you all soon.
Thank.
John

First off, I would recommend classic servers, and you can always go to one of the ToA servers later (the ToA servers have more content in them, but this is probably a disadvantage to someone starting from scratch).

You can probably get to level 50 in a week's time. A knowledgeable person can do it soloing in maybe 2-3 days time if that is the only thing they concentrate on. You will need to learn the repeatable quest trick at level 40 though to do it this fast. Going from 40-50 used to take a long time, but they added 2 repeatable quests that make gaining xp at those levels incredibly quick.

For tanks, who can also throw in some magical damage...of the top of my head, choices might be:

Hibernia
Vamp (a very solid choice in that this class is self buffing)
Nightshade (stealther, very little magic damage though)

Albion
Heretic (another self buffing class, perhaps the one best fitting your description)
Reaver (does some magic damage, but only as part of his melee
Necromancer (not really a good solo class, but incredibly great at leveling up...would not be a bad choice just to get yourself started, and to get some cash/items)

Midgard
Bonedancer (the actual caster does not tank, but he has up to 4 pets that are great tanks)..this class is very viable in RvR and PvE
Thane (another toon that very much fits your description..they can hack someone in melee and do okay there, but can also pack a very powerful punch from distance using spells)
