I got the 14 day trial .. 2 questions
Are the servers that i am allowed to paly on like older less used servers because of no expansions ( 14 day is shrouded isles) ?
Are there any class/race/specialization combinations that are almost never used because ofa general consensus that they suck? Like if made a XXX that focused on YYY and put all my specialization points into ZZZ would that make my game experiance a little more unique/challenging/uncommon ?
I am not too interested in playing charactor that was designed to, for example, "tank" and then go forth and "tank" like every other member of my class and is only distinguished by how good my gear is. I want ot make my charactor something that most people would not go for. Melee priest-type maybe or Take a straight tank make it a DD/hybrid. Does DAoC allow for these extremes or are our roles completely determined by class ?

As far as the server you are on with the 14 day free trial. It is the same server as everyone else minus content of expansions (catacombs dungeons, Labyrinth). So me, with all of the expansions could find and group with you, with only SI expansion and we could play together. But there are areas I can go and classes I can make that will not be available to you without the expansions.
I would recomend you downloading and installing Catacombs (and TOA if you are on a TOA server) since they are free expansions and well worth the content.
As far as classes, check out http://vnboards.ign.com/camelot_class_boards/c14566 and see what is "cookie cutter" specs and you will get the idea what is the norm and what is not. There are a lot of tried and true specs for RvR and PvE but a lot of combinations out there to get out of cookie cutter, same as everyone spec.
Also, every class has several ways to spec which opens up a lot of different options for ya.
