Installation issues - please help!Follow

#1 Sep 25 2005 at 3:22 PM Rating: Decent
I recently attempted to return to DAoC, but discovered that my CDs wouldn't progress past the opening page with the list of options including "Install". Once I select that option, I get the error:

"This application failed to start because expat.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem."

What? I instead downloaded the Classic/SI 14-day files from fileplanet and simply re-activated my account that way, but I'm getting the same error when I try to install ToA. Without ToA, I can't install Catacombs.

I have all the latest updates for windows, and I even tried to save ToA to the HDD and run the install from there like it suggested on the online help, but doing it that way I get this error:

"This client cannot update your Dark Age of Camelot installation because a large number of key files are missing or corrupted. Please re-install the game from your installation CD and try again."

Which, I can't do. Grr. Anyone else have this problem, or know what I need to do to get it going again?

Never mind, I figured it out. Anyone else having the above mentioned problem, or even an issue where when you attempt to start installation from the pop-up menu and it tells you:

"You already have microsoft office 2000 SR-1", do this:

Download the 14 day trial software. This can be found on various game magazine CDs as well as linked from the DAoC home page, under Need a Patch? Once this is installed and patched, insert your ToA or Catacombs CD into the drive. Close the pop-up installer, and instead, enter My Computer, and access the drive that shows the game icon. Once the folder opens, double click the install icon, and proceed normally. Once the installation is complete, return to the DAoC home page, and access the link at the bottom for Need a Patch?, again. Download the patch for the CD you just installed. Once you have it on your hard drive, access it, and run the program. Once the 'pre-patch' is in, you can now run the game. When it completes the first run through the patcher, it may tell you to patch a second time. Once that is done, you're in!

Good luck and have fun
