Is DAOC for me?Follow

Recently several of my friends have began playing DAOC once more and are eager for me to join in.It has been quite a while since I last played DAOC. I played for a few months when SI first came out and leveled and ranger and a animist into the mid 40's. I am apprehensive about playing again though, so I turn to you the players in hope of some enlightenment on the gameplay.

I will be honest about my concerns here, but I do hope they do not result in any flaming...

First of all, of all the MMORPGs I have played, I must say that Camelot had 'the' worst monotinous grind of all... not so much that it took alot of time, but it was the very definition of repetitive and boring... Has this changed at all? I know there are new instances with the addition of Catacombs, but does that ease the grind or is it still horribly repetitive just with a new 'twist' on grinding?

Secondly, when I originally played DAOC, it always felt like it never really left the BETA stage of developement. What I mean by this is Mythic seemed to make DRASTIC balancing adjustments on the mere whims of the nerf-cryers. It just never really felt like the classes were consistant or finished to me... Has this changed at all?

Now I must admit, as far as PVP goes games like WOW just can't compete with DAOC (in my oppinion of course). Are the battle grounds still active? Are they balanced in terms of classes and players? Also, it is my understanding that the battlegrounds have changed significantly since I last played. Have these changes enhanced the PVP experience or do they detract from it?

I know some of these questions are kind of vague, but I GREATLY appreciate any input you can provide me. I just want to know if a return to this game can be justified in terms of my time and money.

Thanks again!

Well I just came back from WoW and hadnt played DAoC since about 2 months after Andred open (long time ago)

Well it is still a grind in that you kill mobs over and over again. However, it is a much quicker grind with the cata instances exp bonus and the free weekly lvl until you hit 48.

There are 3 new servers open now (been out about 3-4 weeks i guess) with no ToA crap. So if you start back you arent to far behind. The BG's are VERY active on the new servers. The old servers are a ghost towns until you get 40 plus due to all the /lvl

Anyway, its a far better game then WoW and it actually has PvP and an end game heh. I realized how good DAoC was after coming back.

If I were you I would give it a go on the new servers. I would not come back to an old server though unless you enjoy lvling your pants.

I used to play Daoc back in the day, cancelled my game though and nowo regret it a lil bit. playing FFXi and WOW now

if you are looking for nice end game content play Daoc or FFXI, both games provide so much content unlike Wow. Wow was the biggest joke when i hit 60. theres litterally nothin to do , LOL

But yea, im probably gonna start up daoc again, just because it was overall a good solid game.

What woeisme said is rather on the button. I wil add though if you have a few level 40's go ahead and raise one of them to max level it won't take that long and at least you will get to make a level 20 character on any old servers ( other than the 3 new classics)

If you haven't played TOA it is HUDGE massive amounts of content and almost a game in itself. The only thing is the items and artifacts that this expansion offers are very tedious to level and obtain. You need "battlegroups" for most and what alot of poeple did not like was that those with all the artifacts would rule in PvP.
Now with countless crybabies crying to mythic that the ubber players had a wicked advantage they opened 3 new servers that bypass all of TOA's content and only allows the graphics update.

But I say if you start a new character go on the classic servers ( new) for sure but do not discard your level 40's as its a whole other game with TOA.
