DAOC a decent game?Follow

#1 Jun 30 2005 at 11:23 AM Rating: Decent
Well I have just bought a box set of DAoC and well I hav to say it looks a great game on the box but wen it is compared to say SWG or WoWc it is very feeble, I mean why do I have to type in such things like Character Sheet etc to progress?

Also is there a Option to use the mouse to move around the world I turned it stright of as it seemed so clumbersome!

Im hoping someone of here can convince me this is a half decent games or i may have to buy guild wars

Well, if your deciding between this and Guild Wars... you must be a person that likes to PvP. Since that's all Guild Wars is about, basicly this too. So if you want outstanding PvP (so I hear, I'm new too), play this. Sure theres a monthly, and it takes a bit more work, but it is so much more worth it.

I've played Guild Wars, I've gotten to 20 and played in the areans, it's nothing special. I can't wait to get a 50 character here and start RvR'ing.

I played DAOC for three years, tried WoW, didn't like it because there is no good pvp fighting. Wasn't much fun like DAOC is when you get in to the real big fights. The group fighting dynamic in DAOC is simply the best I've seen.

As for your issue with haveing to type things alot, I don't recall ever typing 'character sheet' to do anything. I would spell it wrong all the time and get mad if I had to do that. There are short cut keys for everything in daoc. Check your key map thing once you log in to see (and change if you want) what commands are bound to what keys. Also, you can jsut use the mouse and click on the icon thigns on your interface to access the char menu and inventory and gorup menu etc. Grafix interface, bound keys, and typed commands all work in daoc for most everything. I recall it took me awhile to learn how to do it all but it's worth it. You might want to look at getting a custom UI that someone has made. You will have to update it when the patch different things (some people love making these things so you just have to dl their new versions) but it can give you access to alot more in-game info faster. Hope this helps! Maybe Daoc is alittle clunky but it's not all typing obscure commands.

well to be honest I have just started and the first thing I did was click on my guide who then told me I had to type the word proceed in the chat bar, he then said a few more words and then i had to type ome other command?

I sure I will get used to it also is ther only the key board to move abt the world is the mouse not used

Occasionally DAOC makes you type in something for a quest but its pretty rare... usually you just click on the word in square brackets it wants you to type and it works fine. There are a couple commands it asks for typed words, but that's special stuff like deleting a character ot creating a guild.

Honestly, DAOC's UI is archaic compared to WoW's, but still is a similar graghical UI point and click thing, not text based.
