Skill bonuses from itemsFollow

Question for all you long-time players currently trotting around Hibernia.....

... I have got a lvl 19 BM with items that give +4 to my 'Blades' skill tree. At the moment I have 12 pts in Blades and have the 'Lunging Blade' skill.

Should I have access to use the 'Auroric Blade' skill because now my skill is (12+4) 16?. There is no icon for it in the relevant tab on the Character Bar.

If anyone here can help me out (though I am pretty certain that it doesn't do anything ??) it would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Hollomere

No, you should not have access to the Auroric Blade skill. The only hting that the extra skill points in the skill do is make you better at it. It does not grant you any other benefit.

The only thing I can think of off the top of my head where this doesn't count is the Nightshade's Envenom skill.

Thanks for clearing that up for me..... butI have another question about being 'better at the skill' ?

I presume that this means when you get the message "You perform your <insert skill here> perfectly (+<a number>)" you get a better damage increase?

It would be like lets say you are level 30 and have 30+5 in Blades and you get in a fight with a level 35 character. With the +5 added you will have a much better chance of hitting that level 35 in the battleground than if you didn't have the +5 added to blades from an item. It give you a better chance of hitting higher level mobs/players than you instead of missing completely. Or at least this is what my playing/research has taught me about it with putting on and taking off certain stat items and fighting same mob types.

/agree with above + it will allow you to spread your points out more effectively.

Damage veriances. you will notice that when you hit a mob lets say with one particular style you will see a difrence in damage. If you keep your weapon skill at least 3/4 your level you shouldn't have a huge flux in damage. This is where the +'s help too. If you keep your weapon skill at least 3/4 your level and capped out on your +'s it should keep your weapon skill at or just below your level. This will allow you to put other point into your other skill's like shield or parry. and not lose alot of weapon damage doing it.

Tip:
Pick one weapon style and stick with it. Example BM specing Blades, Pierce and Blunt. BAD JUJU! I can't sya how many time I've seen peeps specing in two weapon skills and wondering why on earth their damage sucks.

RESEARCH RESEARCH RESEARCH!

Example: Friend playing DAoC took a ranger all the way to Level 46 and quit and went back to EQ. Why you ask? Hehehe. His ranger's spec was gimped. He was speced Blades/Pierce and his stealth was at his level .... 46 stealth :\ and his bow was level 40. He was getting powned by yellows if they got to him. He made it to RR4 and I realy have to hand it to him for getting that high. But you can see why he got so frustrated and left.

Take your time and read the guides peeps spend their time making up for us. Some are good some are /ok. But read them all.
