I'm trying to figure out if I have to kill stuff to get the blue sturdy pyxis to pop or are they spawned all over the zone to track down?

Any blue pyxis will do, as long as it's not a mimic. I opened the first blue pyxis that my NM-hunting group got and got my key item from it. It required 3 or 4 guesses.

Best to kill some stuff, you can't trust the random ones to not be mimics.

A good target mob is the Ephemeral Murex's.

you wont get the item from a random chest no matter what you have to kill something and guess at least 3 times correct to get it.

I do this quest while hunting the ??? for the recipe book page. You can get the medical supplies from the random blue chests taht pop up around the map. it is not 100% but 1/4 chance from what I've experienced.
