I tried fighting the Disaster Idol three times. We couldnt hurt the thing or get DoT to stick. Our lvl 76 rdm can kite the thing but the only DoT he could land on it was the non-blockable DoT portion of Bio III. Anyone know the trick to hurting it? The wiki says it may be related to time somehow, but we tried on different elemental days and two different moon phases.

That's basically it, either DoT kite or find a high level SMN and let them Carby kite it for you. A stand up fight without a full pt is suicide. If the RDM needs to use gravity/bind for the kiting I recommend popping the NM on any day other than Firesday and Iceday, try popping on Darksday to avoid the tier 3 -gas.

You shouldn't even have to kite him, this guy is beyond easy from what I remember (unless they made him harder with the level cap increase). I killed him with 3 people back in the day and we laughed at how easy of a fight it was. I think it was PLD, WHM, WAR. Second time I fought it a few months later, I was on SMN and we had like 3 other people, and utterly decimated it.

Try to fight it on lightsday if you can help it. Darksday can be a pain due to sleepga. Main thing is have a party setup geared towards endurance rather than a quick kill. He's also pretty accurate so evasion tanking may be difficult.

Our lvl 80 pld didnt last long against it on thunder and dark days. Lvl 75 blm got a barelu 3 digit freeze 2 on it. Lvl 76 rdm couldnt get poison 2 to stick. Lvl 75 war with g. axe was gettin 28 damage per hit. I was not a happy taru. I read some people's claims that they were doing big damage to it so I was wondering if there was something like only fightin a certain moon phase. Even in this thread I see totally different descriptions on how the fight goes.

I guess I need to set up a long kite session. :(

Follow-up:
I got my war77/nin friend to kite it around the square in the middle of the floor while I was pup78 with water -> ice -> ice -> ice -> wait 9 -> deactivate. I had a tranquilizer on so it wasnt resisting all the time like he did when I was a blm.

A nice blink tank is a good thing to have in this fight-- and a healer. Trio'd it for a thf the other day I was running around drk/nin and had my whm buddy with me lol. Lightsday def. the best day to fight him on. Banishga III still sucks to eat though >.>; I've done it before on nin though with just somebody there to heal. Stuns don't land reliably either, just anticipate the aga hits and have some healing and he'll drop soon enough :D

Good luck and I hope you beat him! I'm on Valefor server, throw me a /tell if you are too, I'll help kill.

Wow... hey, the time of day references on wiki mean late in the current vanadiel day vs early...

So start the fight after 12:00 game time. Not near/after 0:00 game time.

BST doesn't have much trouble with it, solo. Nazuna has about 5k hp... so you have a good 10k hp before he turns on you...

Just killed him yesterday and would like to share.

PLD/DNC (me)
SAM/DNC
BLM/RDM
DRG/DRK (went DRK to stun ~GAs)

Fight took 10 seconds. I buffed pro/shell IV and Phalanx. Divine Emblem + Flash, Sentinel and Rampart. While everyone went to town. Didn't even have to use stun and never got below 85%hp. Everyone went untouched. Was iceday.

With the way the fight went I guarantee I could've duoed with Pld + any reliable job with any type of stun ability or spells.

It's a good thing you never had to stun him, because from my recollection, he isn't stunnable.

Recently duo'd with 82MNK/NIN and WHM/BLM on Lightsday. Didn't get buffs up before it was popped so beginning of fight was iffy, but managed it in the end without Bene. Standard melee / hundred fists for damage, Ichi > Ni > Perfect Counter > Ichi tanking with WHM's stoneskin cures helped keep shadows up - pretty accurate even against a level 82 >.> I can see why this thing was a pain at lower levels!

Being lightsday probably didn't hurt. Largely ignored / erased Dia, flash/blink/stoneskin wore off awfully quick with my hasted attack speed. Since we have a WHM, I'd be interested to see how well we'd do on an elemental day. WHM Barspell+Pantaloons+Solace puts my elemental resistance well above 100 and the magic defense from Shell V and the Afflatus Solace kicker can't hurt. Haven't tested it, though - some mobs are tough to resist.

Good luck to anyone taking this guy out lowman!
