I've been trying to get the Zhaval coffer key for the last few days with no luck. I'm at the right place, down one of the four wells on the first level fighting Airhmans, Blood Demons, Doom Demons, and the like, but I can't get the key to drop. I have the Surcoat quest activated for PLD, but fought for 3 hours as RDM/BLM with no drop. I then switched sub to /THF, thinking that it would help the drop with Treasurefinder, but camped the area for two and a half hours with no drop. Am I doing something wrong, or is this an EXREMEMLY RARE drop?

Sometimes coffer keys just suck. Spent over 4 hours in Castle Oztroja once, clearing out the entire top floor of the zone (clearing out meaning, we were killing fast enough such that there were spans at which there were no mobs to pull) and never got any key during that time.

Zvahl in particular sucks because you have to run around a lot in order to access all the mob spawns. It helps if you can bring help and split up in order to get more kills.

Fixed that for you Fyn. ;p

In all seriousness Coffer Keys are very rare. The more people you have the faster you seem to get them but even that's no guarentee.

Well, I've gotten a few of them recently within 3 kills. They don't always suck, that's my point. :P

I had to farm up a Zvahl coffer key on THF/dnc the other night with TH4 and it was the most painful experience of my recent gaming life. It seems the 3 beastmen strong holds + zvahl are designed to make you pull your hair out. Then I go to CN and on the 5th kill boom > key. Let's not even discuss the literally drop a key nearly every mob rate in Zilart zones(tree/kuftal/QSC/SSG) barring Toraimarai Canal.

took me over 2 months to get mine, dedicating 3+ hours to it almost everyday.

of coarse, this was back in 04, when help was hard to find, probobly 75% of that time was spent shouting in jeuno lulz.

Coffer keys are just fickle! I helped a friend on her Lucky Egg hunt and since she didn't have map for the Tree, we grabbed crabs between spawns... and 1st crab dropped key with coffer nearby, then her friend came along who also needed egg and map... took a while for both items the second go around...

Somedays, you get it 1st time, somedays... takes a while.

IMO the worst coffer key to get because of the small numbers of mobs it drops from (only 5 in each camp f'ing sucks.)

Coffer keys don't drop on the top floor. Easiest way to get them is killing Ahrimans, there are a few in each hallways when you drop down to the SECOND lowest level in each of the big pits.
