A few days ago I went out to North Gustaberg [s] to skill on the fortification. I attacked it, and went afk. I came back 20 minutes later, dead. I thought it may have just been a bug, so today I went out to do the same thing. I died as soon as I attacked the fortification in Passhow Marshlands [S]... And a few minutes after I attacked the one in Grauberg..
In Passhow I was attacked by a Beadeaux Vanguard, and in Grauberg I was attacked by Waughroon Heavyshell.
Maybe SE added this so that people don't stand around skilling up? Anyone have any idea what's going on with this?

Dumb question I know, but did you have Allied tags on? Probably not... and I think I remember getting attacked as well, but only when a campaign battle started. That might be what's happening to you as well.
Try checking to see if there's a battle going on when you attack the fort. If there isn't, try attacking and seeing if you're attacked. It might be that the mobs act differently during campaign battle than outside of it.

Alas if you attack a fortification even without allied tags on, you get enemy hate.... meaning that you're fair game for those campaign mobs to come up and bitch slap you while you're away. Same as if you attack a campaign mob without tags on... It'll still beat the crap out of you if you do or do not have tags on. The only way to skill up on fortifications is to do it either non-afk and run when you see the mobs, or throw up RR and hope you don't die, since if you do without tags on, you lose exp.
Yep, they nerfed skill up on towers without tags last update.
