A friend of mine is unable to get the Assault armband to sponsor assault runs. The NPC just tells him some gibberish about "a harsh road lies before you" and "do your duty", but he never receives the option to get the armband. He has talked to the NPC several times in a row with the same results. This also happens at every assault NPC.
He is a blue mage and thinks it may have something to do with that. He has finished all of his Blu AF quests. He also has enough Imperial Standing.
Anyone have any idea what the problem is?

He has one already.
I do Assaults every week, and except in 1 zone I get the armband. The other guys already have their gear, except for 1 guy that needs 1 piece more. Last run we did his area, but I'm used to getting the band every time, so I automatically got it again. You can't give it back, so when my friend came, he got the band, and he entered us.
The next week, I went to get the armband as usual, and got the weird talk from the NPC.
Armbands don't seem to be area specific, so just get him to try to start the next assault. (there are BLU quests that involve those NPCs, but I've never had one interfere with getting the band, they're usually just CSs you need to pick up, they don't block the NPC).

The NPCs give you that dialogue if you try to get an armband as a BLU, but only once if you don't already have one. It's annoying that they do it every time, but it doesn't block you from getting one; gonna second the suggestion to check key items for one already gotten.

Thank you both. We do Assaults on Thursdays, so I'll post after our next run how it turned out.
Just wanted to let you know we did Assaults last night and he did already have an armband. Thanks again for the help. If I could rate you up again, I would.

This happened to me I didn't realize for about a week that the reson I couldn't get a armband was because I already had one. rofl
