Friday's Dev Panel interview with AllakhazamFollow

#1 Dec 06 2008 at 4:29 PM Rating: Excellent
Hey all,

Here is the summary of our private Q&A with the dev team from Friday night. There may be some redundancies with Saturday's Q&A session (see Pikko's Twitter thread) because we didn't know the discussion topics beforehand.

Enjoy!

Highlights from Friday developer panel interview:

- Two new avatars are under consideration, including one that is very large. One or both may be implemented in the “not so far future.”

- Separating tags for regular assault and Nyzul assault would be technically difficult.

- New armor for low- and mid-level players will be available through Fields of Valor, but not complete armor sets.

- SE has not implemented +1 armor storage because of system limitations; the devs have placed more priority on storing other armor sets. However, this is something that may be implemented later on.

- The new Moblin Maze Mongers content will most likely not remove gil from the economy.

- SE is continuing to monitor the population situation on Odin, and further measures to regulate the population there may be enforced.

- The upcoming three expansions will be closer in difficulty to ToAU than CoP.

- Jobs that haven’t received significant updates in a long time may be receiving in 2009, perhaps as soon as March. White mage is among the jobs that may be updated.

- SE is considering making a use for Ixion horns.

- SE is currently investigating the logs from Salvage, Nyzul Isle assault and Sandworm BCNMs. Pending this investigation, actions may be taken against players who were found to have intentionally exploited the glitch regarding drop rates.

- SE would consider holding a Fan Fest in Europe if there was enough demand from players.

- SE is anticipating that RMT will attempt to exploit the new Maze Maze Mongers content, which has been designed for players ranging from levels 1 to 75. The STF is planning to keep an eye on the new content.

- No plans to increase the level cap.

- SE is still planning to release password protection hardware similar to Blizzard’s account authenticators.

- Existing zones, possibly WoTG areas, may be adjusted for improved merit parties, or altered to include new “merit activities.”

- Completing the upcoming scenario expansions will yield rewards similar in quality to those from previous expansions.

- No new jobs are planned for upcoming expansions.

- There are no plans to combine the auction houses in starter cities with those in Jeuno/Whitegate/Tavnazia.

- Armor obtained through Moblin Maze Mongers has been designed to be aesthetically pleasing, as opposed to being practical for leveling.

- NPC fellows cannot be called during level-synced parties because, system-wise, that would be difficult to implement. Also, the level sync feature was created to encourage people to build parties. However, it’s possible this could someday be changed to allow NPCs to be called while level-synced.

- Changes may be made to the level sync system allowing people to skill up, particularly at lower levels.

- There are no plans to expand the gardening system.

- The crafting system may be expanded. The development team is considering a couple of ideas.

- No new hints are coming about how to beat Pandemonium Warden.

- Nothing is being planned to deal with botters/cheaters in Kings camps, mainly because the development team can’t currently prove when people are using certain types of illegal programs.

Is it okay to be just a little bummed with some of those without killing the mood? :<

oh, and I should add...

We were joined in our Q&A by the two European premier sites, and they asked questions too.

I won't lie. I'm a little bummed too. Seem's like there's more bad news and more "We can't we won't" and "who knows" than "We might, we are planning on" and "possibly".

A few things that caught my eye was of course the new avatars, a very much needed update to WHM, skilling up in level sync (I can't say how many times people have turned down my level sync parties just because they needed the skill ups, and I don't blame them) as well as the most important thing I read... Better Account Security... I really can't wait to see what that's all about, because the whole hacking situation is a bit out of hand. So that's very exciting news in itself.

But yeah, a little disappointed in their responses.

Thank you for the interview Thayos and Alla team!

Not really. They still danced around a few issues and system limitations are really getting lame. Nonetheless, I'll take the good with the bad and just hope they keep what promises were made.

#12 Dec 06 2008 at 4:48 PM Rating: Default
how about the same question every time they do an interview about making more space, or how about the one where guy wants a key chain.

someoen needs to ask hard questions like? you know theres this expansion called wotg, are you guys going to just give up?

or campaign ranks, or how about releasing the last piece of the camapaign gear.

We can put a man on the moon, but we can't stop people from botting Land Kings! Argh!

Yeah, seriously though, this is ridiculous. They could do something about these HNMs.

Hah.. one of these days I'm going to get myself a Q&A with SE and ask them if they know why it's so easy to hack ffxi.. and then proceed to show them how anybody with knowledge can pos hack in under 30 minutes from scratch and speed hack in under 5 minutes easily.

Still, a lot of epic information. I can't wait for finals to be over so I can get back to playing the game again.

I'm reminded of the, "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure." line. It's understandable if you can't pinpoint who's botting, but why not eliminate the need to bot to begin with? King drops on KS99s have been one idea, making them poppable another, and I imagine there have been equally reasonable ideas over the years. They've just been sitting on their hands, which in part makes the whole system limitations thing even more aggravating since it sounds like they want to fix something, but......

Yea, and the "system limitations" is basically equal to "PS2" which they won't drop because half of the JP population still plays FFXI on PS2.

Dear Japan,

You guys have robot dogs, cat scan-looking hotel machines that people can sleep in at airports and Mecha-Godzilla. Please upgrade to f*cking PS3s or PCs, since it's 2008. Thank you.

Sincerely,

There is defenetly demand I would go and im sure alot of other EU people I know would go but EU doesnt seem to register with the games industry as much we get games months later than everyone else and for double the cost.

Another thing how do they know if there is interst from EU players its not like they have done a survey of EU players or any where we can express interest in it

lose translation it isnt going to happen
