My interview with SE's Dev teamFollow

Just got out of the interview with SE's dev team!

I'm just going to dump everything here:

New Windower on Tuesday. "Will SE now start banning those using the 3rd party Windower and it's plug-ins?"

The veiled answer: No. They hope that everyone will start using the new official Windower, but if you use the 3rd party one for stuff such as the plug-ins, it will be at your OWN RISK.

Macros: 4000 new macro buttons. Same amount of macro lines for each button however.

Stuff like Bloodpace or JA timers: SE tried to modify the interface but failed on their first attempt, they're going to try again soon.

Dancer: Meant to be a front-line healer who can shoulder other jobs if need be. Dancer was meant to shine in parties of less than 6.

Scholar - Backline with JAs, not just magic. SE feels there wasn't enough backline people.

ABSOLUTE VIRTUE - Can be killed, SE intended to show a video at Fanfest, however they didn't have enough time to create it because AV simply takes too long to kill and they'd need people to stay overtime (laughs from dev team) to work on the video! They intend to post it.

And they hinted they would add an item to 'enfeeble AV'.

RELIC WEAPONS - New weaponskills are being added in the new expansion, and when they do so, they will go back and revamp the relic weapon skills to keep them the 'paragon' skills. When I asked this question, they took quite a bit of time to formulate a response, so it did definitely hit a nerve.

Updating FFXI for the new computer technology, Xbox 360 and PS3? No. Redoing character models and such would require too much resources.

Is WOTG the last expansion? No. SE wants to visit continents to the Far East, West, and the South.

We only had about 25 minutes with the team between myself, and reps from 1up, Joystiq and RPGsomething.. so didn't get to remotely ask all the questions.

Ahh, some nice ammo to toss at anyone who starts any arguments about WotG being the last expansion before SE drops the game.

That interests me because, while it suggests that they wish for relic weaponskills to remain the most powerful and difficult to obtain, the new weaponskills are going to be very powerful in their own right. I wonder if they will top the Rampage/Hexastrike/DancingEdge/Guillotine sort of 'tier' of weaponskill though (as in, will they replace the current dominant weaponskills of their respective weapons. To my knowledge so far, the only semi-confirmed one through a video is a new Sword weaponskill)

At your OWN RISK as in you will probably get a virus, but if you don't, we aren't going to ban you. *laughs at all the people going around saying windower users were going to be banned*

Nice work on the interview!

yeah im wondering that too... if theyll jave the revamp the relic WS does that mean the new WS would be more powerful than the relic WSes? (w/o the revamp that is) if thats the case i weonder how difficult getting the new WS will be..... also if theyll be avilible to be used anywhere or just WoTG areas.. as for wotg not being the last expansion thats pretty obvious... id have had to bomb SE if they let the game go before i get to see the Far East (which imo should have been this expansion instead of seeing 30+ old areas with new makeup

I highly doubt all of those people who said they were 'banned for using windower' were just 'using windower'.

Yeah I always thought it'd be cool to have a far east expansion with pagoda's and bamboo thickets and stuff. Maybe like utai from FF7.

I mean, fanfest is right now - but getting to interview the devs doesn't seem like something just anyone could do - unless you're a really important person and I'm missing something.

I thought the same thing at first. But from reading the blog link provided it looks and sounds legit.

Yay, I get defaulted for pointing out how the OP is legit when some one asked.

gonna have to agree, looking through that site (gamersinfo.com) this would have to be THE most elaborate friday thread in the history of the internet, there's just way too much irrelevant info on there (irrelevant to ffxi that is)

by far the most interesting information in this post. Though it seems strange that the dev's think that relic weaponskills are "the paragon skills" since only about 1/2 of them currently are considered top tier for that weapon type, and only 1 or 2 would be top tier if it wasn't for their added effect. They tend to be out damaged by the slugwinders(crazy modifiers but some other penalty) and multihits(gotta have the acc to land all hits)

This good enough proof?

That's Sage Sundi, some devs and the head of the FFXI project.

if you are Japanese you gain +1 to occasionally and suddenly interview the developers at SE.

true story

Or be invited by SE to cover the event? :P

At least now I know if they forgot or skipped it. Time is a good excuse. "You must kite AV for 6 hours to drain all his MP first"

I concur
I'm really pretty tired of being a haste/refresh ***** or a main healer while wasting all this other potential that the class has to offer.
I'm excited about the idea that RDM will be accepted to the front line of the fight. God knows I've been tweaking the **** out of my character to make her a front line fighter.
Also, I'm so freaking jealous of all of you people at the fan festival. I just wanted to throw that one out there too. Yeah.

In before a bitter BLM tells me I don't have it that bad.
In before I reply to that BLM by acknowledging that they've been shafted.

Finally someone asked about those weaponskills. Although they didn't get much info on the new ones the relic weapon re-do something I will be interested in seeing.

I would have loved to interview the dev team. But I would not have been caught dead within 100 ft of some kid with too much acne in a fake RDM costume.
