-1.0) Introduction

Welcome to The Bestiary, a compilation of information on the many different species of mobs in this game. This compendium provides the following data on each mob species:

Name
Family
Detection Method(s)
Charmable?
Standard Drops
TP Attacks
Additional Information

I hope you may put it to good use, as it did take a good deal of time to get the information gathered, typed out, and formatted. This said, onward with The Bestiary!

1.0) Notes On Using The Bestiary

1) To skip to a certain letter, hit Control-F and search for the letter like this: ~*A*~, *A*, or even just *A. This is to differentiate it from all the other 2308 “A”’s or otherwise in The Bestiary.

2) TP Attacks in Cyan are only used by mobs in Chains of Promathia zones, *or*, if noted in the Additional Information section, are only used in the northlands.

3) LoS refers to a Line of Sight attack; in other words, it’ll affect you if you’re in front of (or near the front of) a mob, but will not affect you if you’re to behind or to the side of a mob.

4) AoE refers to an Area of Effect attack. These will affect you if you’re within a certain range of the target; a range estimate is not given in this guide.

5) If a Standard Drop is in (parentheses), then this drop is obtained from higher level mobs that are part of the family.

6) The Bestiary is not 100% complete, sorry; there’s info missing, particularly on the less commonly seen Tavnazian mobs. Almost all of the information on pre-Chains of Promathia mobs is filled out, but even then, it’s an ‘almost’, not an ‘all’. I will make updates, but there is no consistent time I will make these updates.

~~~
1.1) So, You’d Like To Contribute, Eh?
Well, I’m happy to hear that ^^ In order to contribute, go to this thread:
The Bestiary; Contributions
This is where you post your contribution. Now, rules for contributing:
1) Be acute in what you say and use correct spelling and grammar.
Yeah, that’s about it ^^ There’s no penalty for not following that instruction, but I really do appreciate it.
Note that I may change up the wording of your addition/correction in order to be consistent with the thread, but you *will* be included in the Credits on the next update.
3.0) Credits
First off, I’d like to thank Areya of Lucky LS on Phoenix for his extensive help with gathering information for the project. I originally had filled out about half of the information from memory; he helped gather a large amount of the information that was still needed ^^ *tosses Rey a cookie*
I’d also like to thank FFEncyclopedia for information on 4-5 different mob classes, as well as Mysterytour, which I used to fill in quite a few holes, particularly where I had the name but not the full effect of the move, as some of the names given on Mysterytour are in kanji or do not line up with the names used in the NA version.
Finally, I’d like to thank Somepage for help on a few of the standard drops.
Get ready for Sage Status because this was a LOT of work and HAS to be appreciated.
PS: To make this a +1 bestiary, consider including which weapon type things are strong/weak to! If you got the time and info :)
IE: Skeletons : Weak to Crushing - Strong to Piercing
Ketsuki may have all the fun in the LS, but here, only I can truly dispense a Smiley: cookie. There you go.
Just thought I'd let you know - you have thinkers and gorgers, but not cravers. You also missed spheroids (the Zilart arcana that floats in the air and shocks people, sometimes summoning dolls). Might want to look them up, or just copy the information over if you forgot.
Also, I noticed some inconsistancies with the official family names given by SE in the World Report. You may want to change them and add references to the old names, add references to the official names, or whatever.
Greater Bird should be Roc
Trap should be Flytrap
Orcish Warmachine should be Orcish Machine (or maybe SE ran out of room)
Bat (Triple) should be...Bats
Edit: I got rated down not once, but at least twice, for what? For rating someone else up? For passing out a cookie? For pointing out corrections? How about you post a reason so I know what I did that offended you so dearly?
This is unnecessary since a better bestiary exists on mysterytour with largely the same information, plus elemental/damage weaknesses, pictures, possible skillchains, etc.
I wouldn't be surprised if most of this info was just ripped from mysterytour anyway (even the format is the same).
That being said, I just briefly skimmed this and found plenty of mistakes and missing info.
the OP wrote:
Goobbue
Family: Lizard
Detection Method(s): Sight
Wrong on both counts.
They are plantoids, and they detect by sound.
If you disagree, you can test them both out by running around the upper section of the boyahda tree without sneak, and you can fight goobues after eating a ginger cookie (gives plantoid killer) and watch them get intimidated.
Quote:
Ahriman
Additional Information: N/A
The fact that they have a 25% magic defense bonus as a passive trait is pretty significant, wouldn't you say?
You can test this by nuking some other non-magic resistant mob of a similar level to the ahriman you're going to test, and then nuke the ahriman with the same spell. Basic math will beget your conclusion.
Quote:
Magic Pot
Additional Information: Magic Pots will cast various Black Magic.
Again, you leave out important info. Pots have a 50% magic defense bonus as a passive trait. You can test this the same as you can with an ahriman.
In addition, they have Fast Cast as a passive trait.
You can test this by timing the casting speed of ancient magic from a mob without fast Cast (a skeleton, for example), and then timing a magic pot's cast of the same AM type.
The reason you do this test with AM is because the difference in time it takes for the spell to go off is more noticeable.
Also, pots having Fast Cast makes logical sense considering higher level pots drop red mage testimonies.
Quote:
Evil Weapon
Additional Information: N/A
Once again, more info left out. Weapons have a passive trait of twelve and a half percent magic defense bonus.
Quote:
Demon
Additional Information: N/A
You neglected to mention the passive 25% magic defense boost.
Quote:
Family: Insect
No such class. You were looking for "vermin."
Quote:
The class is vermin.
That's all I found in a quick skim; there's probably more errors.
Sure, it's better on some fronts. 'Course, I'd appreciate it if you note that Mysterytour also has mistakes and lacks some effects and English names as well, along with the fact that it can't be printed out for in-game reference. Can't hurt to compliment someone once a millenia, y'know? ^^
I like the way you make suggestions like that...
If you'd like a clarification, of all the information, I'd say approximately 3-5% percent was "ripped" from Mysterytour. Oh no, I cheated! ...Right, Spinnie? ^^ Before you get on to me about countering something that isn't a direct accusation, I'd like to note that the aforementioned quote of myself is plenty clear enough to tell that I didn't take "most of the info" from Mysterytour.
Great suggestion, that's definitely something that should happen in time, though I'm probably not going to look at adding a new information section for the time being, I have school and other individual projects to attend to. I'll also add the elemental weaknesses as well.
Hopefully in the future, it's not complete enough as of now, though I went ahead and posted since I decided I could use outside contributions and that it was already somewhat helpful in its current state.
Might I recommend adding some color coding to the guide to make it a little easier on the eyes to read. Nothing drastic just some more colors other than cyan and plain text might make it easier to read. Also to help someone surf through for a specific piece of information they're looking for.
