Some Blue Mage questionsFollow

I have some possibly basic questions regarding upgrading blue mage weapons.

I'm currently off-handing a Buramenk'ah; I'm looking at the process of upgrading it by mezzotinting. I know it's not the best sword available, but I don't have the playing schedule that allows for parties and I'm not confident of getting a better one any time soon. My questions are:
- do upgrades benefit me as much for an off-handed weapon as my main weapon?
- I have over 1200 job points so my accuracy isn't bad; should I invest in any more accuracy upgrades or put them elsewhere?
- I don't understand the difference between magic accuracy and magic attack damage. Is a blue mage better off getting mostly one or the other . . . or should I split evenly between the two?
- Is there something I'm obviously missing in my questions and anything completely different you'd suggest?

I sincerely appreciate any help you can give. Thanks!

Change of plans - the Buramenk'ah can't be upgraded. Smiley: bah

I'm still trying to find out whether there is any difference whether you're main-handing or off-handing a weapon in terms of the attributes of that weapon. I can't seem to find the answer to that question.

When it comes to MACC, targets have a Magic Evasion attribute just as physical types have their equivalent. Thus, doing fully unresisted damage will depend on how your overall MACC relates to the target mob. BLU spells aren't always created equal in this regard, as some have altered MACC out of the box (1000 Needles being the old notorious example). MATK will go on to augment magical spells, which is further weighed against the target's MDEF. Physical spells have no regard for MACC when it comes to their damage output, only if they potentially have secondary effects like Stun from Head Butt and such. So, when it comes to something like Quadratic Continuum, you'll obviously want to try and guarantee enough ACC to land all hits. And if you're not sure which spell is Physical or Magical, just look at their icon. If it's magical, it'll match its element, while physical spells are all brown/bronze/whatever. To more specifically answer the MATK query, though, stacking it with spells like Subduction or those learned from the dual elementals is a good idea.

Magic damage, however, adds to the base value of a spell, and if memory serves, only the main-hand weapon is counted. BLU doesn't have too many easily accessible swords with a good amount of +damage, but the RoE line that puts you through skirmish should eventually get you a voucher for an okay club to utilize until you do. Also fuzzy on whether or not MACC values from weapons dual-wielded combine, or if it only goes for main-hand, too.

Thank you for the response! Great information about MACC and MATK.

I don't understand why it's so hard finding the answer about the attribute benefits of the off-handed weapon. I've read through the dual-wielding page, and all its links - but nada. I'm sure I've read something somewhere that indicates the off-handed weapon is inferior in some way to the main-handed weapon regarding the attribute benefits.

Not to say off-hands are useless, they're just limited. +ACC should affect all weapons, while Sword Skill+ only applies to that specific one. Overall, I think it was done so everyone wouldn't just /NIN or /DNC everything with 2 weapons beating 2-handers no matter what. In the end, it doesn't really take away from BLU's power as it's still one of the better off jobs if you can get it geared well. 1200 JP perk is pretty much a must, too.
