Having not actually looked into transferring before, seeing the default price kinda boggles my mind. Then again, I've felt like it should be a free service for a while now.

While I understand people want free services for things like server transferring, at least in Square-Enix's defense that $18 ($9 now with the campaign) allows you to transfer every single character on that POL ID within the time frame they allot you.

That's a hell of a lot better than $15-$25 just to transfer one character, which is what most other MMOs chargel

To be fair, I'd assert its sleazy in other games, too.

Rift and GW2, to a lesser degree, has spoiled me on this matter. Nonetheless, for a genre many tout to be about people playing together, this serves as a barrier to that objective. Further so when one considers a move might not bear fruit and require yet another transfer later on down the line.

XI is just kind of in that awkward position where they really do need to merge a lot of worlds, but some people would hate it because the current game may be hampered by higher populations via congestion/poor instancing.

Actually fairly cheap and some MMOs you actually can't retain certain items in transfer.

The ONLY issue with merging currently is the CP camps would be overcrowded. Everything else is so spread out now or in instances that work fine (largely, Ambuscade is hit/miss) server merging wouldn't hurt me. But Merging anything into Asura or Quetz would be suicide atm lol, since the worlds with even smaller populations would be better off just going to the bigger worlds, kinda like when Titan merged into Phoenix.
