Announcing the February Version Update

Well met, adventurers!

Matsui here with some information on the next version update.

I’d like to discuss the content of the first version update of 2016, which is scheduled to go live on Wednesday, February 10.

There are two major items that I’d like to shed some details on.

  • Wanted Battles
New notorious monsters will be added to Fei’Yin, Gustav Tunnel, and Cape Terrigan. As you are well aware of by now, one of our goals with Wanted battles is to provide a way to butt heads with some of our more memorable notorious monsters.

This go around, square off against your favorite morbol in Fei’Yin, a goblin ranger in Gustav Tunnel, and a manticore in Cape Terrigan. We’re currently working to bring you a souped-up version of these stories antagonists, and hope that you find the rewards for vanquishing them useful in future battles.

  • Relic, Mythic, Empyrean, and Ergon Weapon Reforging
We will be adding a method to reforge item level 119 relic, mythic, empyrean, and ergon weapons. The precise method for relic, mythic, and empyrean weapon differs depending on whether or not the weapon has an afterglow effect.

Those wishing to reach the pinnacle of achievement will definitely want to give reforging another go!

Other changes coming in February are adjustments to melee and ranged damage calculations, Domain Invasion balance adjustments, automaton adjustments, and a fleshing out of the item sorting feature.

We are also working on quality of life improvements such as the ability to purchase all items required for Wildskeeper Reives at once, new categories for Geas Fete-related key items, and alter ego adjustments.

Heh probably because you were able to freeze buffs and such by being locked into NPC interaction, so good chance if buff time didn't pass while in cutscenes it's something they didn't want to have people abuse in certain areas (like where a goblin footprint or 'resume' point reside.) But these days it doesn't matter too much since anything 'exploitable' literally has no use.

They're really just setting it back to the way it used to be. Back in the day buff timers (and debuff timers) were frozen during NPC interactions then sometime around 2007-2008 they changed it because people would exploit it.

I wish they'd change Sneak Attack back to the way it used to work where you only had to be out of the mob's line of sight (this was changed shortly after the NA release)

Adjust the resolution of menus.
The main screen resolution for "FINAL FANTASY XI" is dependent on the "Overlay Graphics Resolution" setting.
If the Overlay Graphics Resolution is set higher than the Menu Resolution, menus will be automatically resized.

I thought of it first:
