As I beat Rhapsodies of Vana'diel, my adventure comes to an end. Thank you for all the memories both in game and here in Allakhazam forum. Been a blast since October 2003. Final Fantasy XI is a special MMORPG because it's always about the story, not the endgame or the gears. And in the end, it's the first beatable MMORPG complete with an ending and a credit roll.

I may or may not play FFXIV but I am downloading the free demo now.

See you there ^^

It's always sad to see someone leaving, good luck. The FFXIV story is great. At the same time, there is so much more to an MMORPG than just a story line.

I had noticed a massive spike of people coming back to the game after the final installment of Rhapsodies last month.
Although players found their old content IDs begain to instantly activate, a similar amount of people left once the goddess gala expired.
It was nice to see Reisenjima packed to the brim and server populations jump for a few days though.
I haven't had to compete against anyone to enter an area for ages!

The hardest part now is staying interested once the dust settles! Also server merger anyone? :(

I am coming back to FFXI.. I played about 7 years and left when FFXIV launched.

I left to play FFXIV which started out as a good game it really has not added anything new since launch. It has plenty of content and has plenty of content added regularly its content is always the same though. The game is stale. I have been playing since launch and someone could catch me in 3 months. The game is incredibly easy and way too repetitious. It does have a few things better than FFXI but not enough to hold someone yet. Seems like allot of people are leaving at this point and I have talked to a few going back to FFXI.

That's my current problem with XIV. It has way too much to do once you first start playing, but after you get done with the main story quests and get a max level character it becomes dull and repetitive. It's kind of the case with any game, though, I guess. I've been playing it for over two months now and I don't see myself getting bored for at least another month yet.

That does sound fun! If FFXI was easier to keep up-to-date I would definitely be logging on during the free periods. :/ POL is such a freakin' nightmare, I wish they would do something about it.

Yea 0-50 was great on FFXIV... I played since beta.. END game was fun in the beginning because you knew the game was new so there was little content so you didnt mind doing the same thing over and over. It is not new anymore and there was a expansion and there is still nothing new. It is cookie cutter dungeons with 3 bosses and trash in between. I feel like the only thing to do in the game is run for tomes to get new gear and the minute you do there is new gear and new tomes. Blah. Boring. After 2 years it is enough.

So the one thing in the game was the relic. ok you work your but off for it and then they just end it and have some quested gear that is better.
So now they have a new relic but it is garbage it is like 180 when the current gear is is 210.. WTH Then you bust your but to get it to 210 and they already announced gear that is better in the next update.. The relic should be the best gear in the game... Nothing gear wise is good for more than a few weeks, you never get to enjoy the gear. I mean in FFXI I have gear from 50's that is still good...

The games does have some good stuff.. Crafting is better, way better..
The more I play FFXI again the more it feels like it needs a face lift.. Yesterday I was trying to compare gear lol and you cant. The whole interface is clunky.
If they moved FFXI to FFXIV engine it would be sweet.

There actually is a gear compare feature in the game now. There's a certain button you press while selecting another piece of gear to equip; it tells you which button in the tooltip thingy at the top.

There's a few things that XI has taken from XIV that XI actually does better too, such as the glamour system (you can glamour anything you character can actually wear among all of your jobs; the only restriction is that weapon types must be identical, for instance if you're using a sword you must be using a sword glamour). Doesn't need any clunky glamour prisms either.

I think if XIV went away, XI would go back up.

Some, maybe, but I wouldn't call it a giant demographic. I know it may sound like I poke at XI a lot for lacking modern features, but part of that is from the perspective of people who would refuse to touch the game after leaning such and such isn't present. And usually this is the point where people who think upgrading XI should be done to accommodate is closer to making a new game itself.

I'm purely basing this off the last major upgrade before the re-release of XIV. The population sky rocketed, then immediately fell. I enjoy XIV much more than XI, but after awhile, a change of scenery is nice. I honestly believe that many people who left XI are simply unaware of the most recent changes.

I quit playing because experience parties died.

The fact you can use five trusts anywhere now further proves there is less and less need for other people.

While that's all well and good for this state in the game, it kind-of kills my enjoyment of it.

Technically speaking, EXP parties (as in, no/minimal trusts) do still exist and they are potentially still the best form of EXP.

It's just that now, you can still at least do *decently* solo, as opposed to the don't-even-bother rates of solo EXP it used to be before.

Yeah, if you want any kind of decent JP rate or even gear, your *** is partying.

I'm so out of it, I don't even know where to start. I was soloing JP, but the points are so high now, it's not worth it.

It's so easy now. CP PTs have gotten really good, either in Escha or in Gates zones. The points seems high initially but your CP/hour really improve as you unlock gifts.

I'd say Reisenjima mobs (or high-end Gates) are too evasive for Sparks gear, both physically and magically, so I can understand people feeling like they have difficulty there. This means either throwing gobs of gil at Skirmish augments or hoping someone could help you with Escha gear, which is then augment hell of its own. Pretty much why I said what I did above.

Yeah CP parties are supposed to be good but I could never get an invite to them even with 119 gear. Game is too stratified now. Either you have tons of the best gear already and are just optimizing, or you don't and never will without someone taking pity on you or you soloing a super weapon of some kind. It's one of the reasons I just gave up after the BST nerf. I was already only able to solo pretty much, then they took away the utility of my favourite solo job.

A big problem though is that returning to the party scene means returning to the job elitism scene. Some folks have no choice but to solo their CP because their job will never, ever be invited except by friends, and/or plenty of people have the little issue of most/all of their friends not really playing the game anymore.
