A New Challenger Appears!Follow

Hello, everyone! I'm Blaster Blade, and I'm new to XI. I read up on a few things, and now I'm just waiting for (ages for) my emails from Square Enix. Seriously, why do they take so long?

Anyway, I did a little bit of reading, and I was wondering if anyone could give me some tips on things like which server to choose, or which guilds to look into, that sort of thing. I'm a college student, so I might not be able to play 24/7 (gotta get my learnin'!), plus I'm kind of shy when it comes to meeting new people... Anyway, here's hoping this game is as fun as I'm told it was! Please take good care of me!

I'm not a reddit user, but I've heard word of a server they tend to congregate on. So that might be your best bet for a concentrated English speaking population and a linkshell. Otherwise, I don't think you'll find a whole lot of difference between the worlds.

Otherwise, your early time is going to be spent knocking the basics out of the way like unlocking your subjob, leveling subs, limit breaks, and so on. I think I'd overall suggest picking one job you like (particularly non-mage to avoid to spell costs. unless you go BLU) and getting it to 99 first with its most useful sub before turning your attention to missions and such. If you're good with your RoE use, can buy sparks gear at 99 and be good to go for earlier content and introductory endgame. You're probably going to be alone a lot while leveling, though. So, whatever you've heard about the olden days, it might not apply now.
