Apologies if this advice is listed somewhere in one of the stickies-

I am an extremely casual, mostly solo player. I have two jobs leveled to 99 (Monk, Samurai) and another at 79-ish (Warrior)

I have a few pieces of Empyrean gear, plus sparks gear for Monk and Sam, and the Pearle set for Warrior.

I recently made it to Adoulin, and have spent some time meriting and collecting capacity points. I've also done a few of those events where you have to break through a

monster fortification (wall or whatever) and the lair one (reives, right?)

I don't need to have the latest, greatest, best and brightest gear, but I'd like to at least not be gimp, you know?

So what should my plan be? it looks like the sparks gear is pretty kick-@$$, should I even bother with Empyrean or Dynamis gear? Should I continue to do the reives solo?

or try to join some groups in Adoulin?

Any advice is welcomed

Sparks gear is great - have you not been collecting sparks all this time? If so you should have enough for a whole set. If not - get it started and get that first. Empy and relic etc is worth it once you've upgraded it - you should be focussing on that as long term goal, so yeah go out and collect it. Other than that, skirmish gear is really nice - and there are some wildskeeper peices you should grab.

First, I would look into the new missions that were added today. They will make your life easier by granting numerous key items that will allow you to call additional Trust NPCs, reduce the cost of various things, reduce the entry time of certain events, and even allow you to buy items from new vendors. They are pretty easy, I was able to do it with trust npcs and barely took any damage.

There are reasons to obtain and upgrade dynamis gear. Things like increased Hundred Fist duration for Melee Hose +2 (or the iLevel versions) which I really loved for salvage bosses.

There is some equipment that can be purchased with bayld that can be good alternatives to sparks gear. Go around the various Adoulin zones and get your waypoints and homepoints out of the way, they'll make doing some of the coalition assignments a lot easier (which is a good way to make bayld).

Don't forget to look at your Records of Eminence objectives! I've been neglecting them and was almost floored the other night when I looked at all of the new free/easy sparks I was missing out on. The RoE for lair and colonization reives is a must, they permanently grant capacity point bonuses when completed the first time.

Well, there is a bit of a list of things you need to do, but here are some main ones:

-Visit the coalitions in Adoulin, and take on the tasks they offer. You will need to complete 50 tags worth (but can use up to three tags per mission, if you want) to progress some in SoA, particularly to be able to enter the Wildskeeper Revies (some incrementally better, but not great gear there)

-Travel through the Adoulin zones, with a focus on getting the survival skills (watercraft in Foret de Henetal and climbing in Marjami) way points and home points. This will take some time, but will be incredibly useful later; you can do most of this solo and with sneak/invis, not much fighting

-Find and activate the enigmatic devices in Rala Wayerways (easy, under east Adoulin) Cirdas Caverns and Yorcia. The last two will be a bit of work, but are very important for the next part

-Get into any pickup groups for Skirmish in Rala, Cirdas or Yorica, focusing mainly on Yorica. Rala and Cirdas have some good weapons, but Yorica has very good armor and an option to obtain weapons as well. Also, Yorica is the easiest for a pickup group or random person to join. The skirmish weapons and armor can be further upgraded through items obtained in those zones and with a little luck upgrading (or much gil spent) will be your primary armors. Even unupgraded, they make a nice baseline

The Skirmish system has been SEs way of maintaining a low barrier to entry baseline armor and weapons option to players, especially those in your condition of trying to catch up. In general, the event is low cost, low(ish) difficulty and not much loss for failure.

Once you get yourself up to speed through Skirmish, you can also look at the hard-mode mission battles, Vagary and the new content released in the most recent update. But my advice at this time is to focus on skirmish to the extent that you can.
