I just re purchased the game, I played the beta and for around or close to 2 years in a way was able to get 3 toons to 75, after buying a new house and stuff that goes with it I stopped playing, I did play a few mmo here and there but mostly played xbox games as they demanded a lot less time, tho I have and still play kotor in a way but mostly its a solo game in a way, and I played beta and for 3 months reborn but could not get into it the way I did ffxi. I have seen and read posting that now I can play this game without the 3 hour party waits that resulted in 30-50 min of play time.
FFXI still is my major introduction to the MMO/Linkshell/community world, lot of games I played since are always made better with guilds/shells.
I do have a few questions, it took all night for the game to download and update I rather in haste made a new toon and forgot what server I played him on, how do I find which world he is on? as I noticed in game ive only seen 7 people from level 1 to 7 and none talk. If I do delete can I start on another server free?
I remember Ranger was the best dd and had a very nice one as well as Samurai and BLM, hoping these are still great classes? I do remember do the lu shangs quest getting the pole and getting my fishing to close to 90, is it still a long challenge with fishing/crafting?
I checked out the bazzar and noticed pretty much no starting gear or it was priced way beyond my means, Im guessing this has changed as well as when I left it seems the economy was sinking
I bought the game with all the new expansions packs, it does seems quite different, I'm completely lost going around town, after all its been 10 years but a lot of it is coming back to me, like doing the quest to open Ninja how it took a lot of us to do that and the samurai quest

Welcome back. There are a lot of changes to the game since then.
One hint: check every home point you find. You can now teleport between home points that you've interacted with, even between cities in different expansion packs.
You should be able to determine what server (world) you are on in the character select screen. Select that character and it should show information like race, gender, level, job, and server. Or you can go to the account information web site and review your current subscriptions and it should list the character and server there. You are paying per character slot, you can delete and reroll as much as you desire and should be able to select a new server.
Unfortunately, the servers have become very top heavy meaning there are very few low level characters around and most of them are level 99 doing endgame. Most players hang out in either Jeuno or Adoulin and not the starter cities. Soloing has become more viable, and there are ways of getting NPC helpers once you advance in the game. I can offer no advice on what server to join, I can only vouch for Carbuncle which does not have a large English speaking population.
Do not worry yourself too much about low level equipment. You will level too fast to really care. I suggest reading up on something called records of eminence (RoE) and obtaining a currency called sparks which you can use to buy some lower level weapons and armor if you run out of luck from other sources. As long as you have a fairly decent weapon you should be ok as long as you keep Signet on.

unfortunate it looks like a dead server even in the forums, seeing im only like level 7 think it is worth it to ask around and just re roll to a new server if there are linkshells that are happy to take in new players?
It couldn't hurt to ask around. Check around on the XI general discussion forum here, I think some people discussed server populations already.
