Job viablity at endgame?Follow

#1 Feb 14 2015 at 11:33 PM Rating: Decent
Hey all, returning player creating the usual question thread. I've been back in the game for a week now after a long break (quit right before Wings of the Goddess). I created a fresh character just to get used to the game again and waiting to jump back in on my Warrior/Paladin Galka, and I gotta say I love the new Trust system and being able to gear up characters using Sparks.

But to the question - what Jobs are viable at endgame? Is Puppetmaster still lol? What are the 'in' tank classes, healers, buffers, etc? Anything I should avoid leveling that'd be more than a chore to get invited to endgame with?

Some things, namely incursion groups, will invite pretty much all jobs.

For BCNMs and Delve II, paladins with aegis and/or ochain(both of which are much easier to get now than they were years ago) are called for. Skilled rune fencers with their ergon greatswords can practically solo everything after the rest of your group wipes provided their is enough time left.

Popular damage dealers include thf(for sata rudra's storm mega damage and TH), monk (mostly for Formless Strikes), Samurai, and ranger.

Bard, Corsair and Geomancer are all very desirable for the roles they can fill.

White mage is typically the only healer anyone will accept in most cases.

Red Mage and Scholar are widely used as stunners but can perform a wide variety of other tasks. For instance, I had a skilled red mage tanking high level BCNMs just as well as any paladin I've ever seen just the other day. That same red mage pretty much solo'd all the skirmish runs we did with little help from the rest of us.

Pet jobs are good for soloing/low manning as always.

I almost never see any ninjas, dragoons, or drks anymore, but those who are passionate about said jobs can gain entry anywhere if they really try. Dancers can pair Rudra's Storm with Climactic Flourish for a similar effect to thf's, and provide extra healing and support.

I wouldn't say to avoid any jobs. Just play with what you are passionate for, and if you do well people will notice. Don't be afraid to ask even if they aren't specially shouting for the jobs you play. Often times, they must choose between inviting you or continue desperately shouting and begging their linkshell for the specific setup they want.

^ Exactly what Kuwoobie said ^

..and that skilled RDM has to be Kiddeath of Sylph?

Also, along with PLD's requirements, BRD can generally have some fairly high instrument requirements of them, nobody really wants a plain old two-song Brd, I think best case scenario is a 4-song Brd with all songs +4-5, which can just about get accomplished without relic & empyrean but getting the empherean intrument Daurdabla alongside Ghorn would be target intruments for any Brd much like the Aegis/Ochain combo is for a PLD. Other then those and potentially the relic gun everyone has gone mythic mad.

Don't worry about making gil nowadays, its very easy to make in Dynamis and Salvage I&II, and in many other cases you find yourself in. If you want two good melee classes .for making gil then Thf is good because of TH, but anything a thf can do I feel I can do better on Monk because it feels like when I punch I am Dual-wielding GAXES with the delay of Daggers and I can reach fairly high rates of counter. RDM, DNC, NIN are ofc all good solo-ers, with the three I've just mentioned along with SCH, able to solo much tougher mobs. I'm mentioning jobs that can solo to start with because there is an entire game out there that can now be solo'd and having a job that excel's at that type of solo-ing (Dyna, Abyssea, Salvage, Limbus) is great for diving straight into things when you hit 99 instead of waiting for PUGs that can be very nit-picky over job selection and sometimes gear once you hit 99-ilvl117. Having a job to solo on can give you the time to assess the current EG and the jobs needed for it before pehaps chosing your future jobs.

Thanks for the replies. To be honest I'm having a blast just collecting Trust magic and working through the storylines again at my own pace. Hope endgame is still as fun as I remember it.

Well it's pretty nice doing missions and enjoy the storyline when you can burn the fights with your favorites npcs, including the fellow npc when you can hehe You'll need to finish CoP for the ring, Wotg for the earring, Zilart and ToAU for High-tier BCs and mythic quest, and Adoulin missions for the awesome ring...Don't forget nations also, I still need to do past and present Bastok and Windy...
