Returning player- 2 days back! Just poking around for a bit of advice since the game has changed quite a bit since I'd played. I quit right after Seekers came out. I Had basically completed almost all Abyssea content, some VW and most NNI pieces. At the time I had an extremely well-geared WAR and a decently geared BST (I'd made myself the -pdt axes and had a good pet gear set). Now that I'm returning, clearly all my gear is basically 20 levels behind. So far I've collected some Trusts and I started doing so RoE objectives to earn sparks. I've been on BST using some Falcorrs to kill EP's and try to remember muscle memory and re-write macros. Would anyone be willing to throw me a rough outline of how I ought to proceed as far as gear progression? I plan to work on BST first since it seems like this would help me to gear my other fun jobs (WAR and THF). I will read what I can find on forums on my own, but the traffic here (and elsewhere) is much less than what it used to be. I am willing to do some research, I am just asking for a bulleted list and some "Don't miss out on this awesome piece" type pointers. Also, if you're feeling very generous, you can add any pointers for WAR or THF as well since I will be banging around with them too. I just couldn't stay away :)

THF might be even easier to start with than BST since BST got screwed by ilevel since our pets didn't really scale and Rudra's storm is now sweeeeeet. Depends, the next patch is supposed to buff bst. We will see if it is enough.

That's an interesting thought. I had a well-geared THF for farming purposes, but in reality I've not played THF in a boss fight setting for a loooooong time. I can't even tell you what all the JA's are now off the top of my head haha.

Anyhow, I've been tooling around on BST for about 2 days, slowly working my way back into things. I've already earned enough sparks from stuff I did in the past that I've got Eminent Axe, a full set of Outrider Gear, and Eminent Dagger. I had really nice accessories from before I quit (things like Epona's ring) so I'm not overly concerned about accessory upgrades at the moment. My goal is to hit up some WKR for bridge gear. I spent last night working through some SoA zones to get weypoints. I can't believe how easy it is to solo the colonization reives compared to when I quit. Basically I'm trying to open the way to do WKR if I see a shout. I also vaguely remember being able to get gear from some guy by using Delve plasm or something like that, but I think I only got 1 boss kill (Grasshopper) before I quit. I *might* have also killed the Oroban. It's been awhile. Should I be looking into this or has that gear fallen by the wayside?

Honestly, I'm not 100% sure what my goal is ATM. Eventually I want to have decent to good gear for WAR, THF, and BST. I would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to upgrade my Ukon and regear my WAR, but I quit at the 90 stage and HMP's are uber expensive. Is it possible to solo or low-man any of those bosses that drop HMP's?

Thanks for any thought/advice. I feel like such a n00b all over again.

For the most part only the big bad boss stuff from delve 1 is worthwhile these days, and some of the accessories you can buy with plasm.

Ok, thanks. A few quick questions on the relative difficulties of some content: (I am asking this because the server I am on seems absolutely empty...)

1) Would it be possible for me to solo farm Delve plasm with trusts?
2) I still need some delve NM kills to get access to those accessories- is any of that soloable or will I need to /sh for help (and hopefully not have to pay ; ; )
3) WKR weren't out when I quit so I don't know anything about their relative strength. Can I solo WKR or do I need to wait for a shout?
4) Is it possible to solo or low-man any of the NM's that drop HMP's, or should I kiss my dreams of Ukon goodbye?

Unrelated to content but completely related to server pop.:

5) Are any of you on Ragnarok? I am looking to either find a social shell on Ragnarok or to jump servers to a place where there is a social linkshell that is active during my playtimes (weekday evenings EST and weekends).

I don't know about soloing... other than getting those shards you can eat for plasm... you can't use trusts in delve I don't think

At least one of the delve NMs is soloable (matamata) but you really would be best off having some help if you can get it generally. I can't speak for them all since I've mostly just given up on delve.

You can't solo WKR.

You don't need to solo HMP... if you shout people will join you in voidwatch. I've played with people who got all of their dross etc in a couple months (of course they were doing a billion voidwatch a day but still, people do voidwatch a lot on Asura - as long as someone makes groups people will join)

I don't think you can solo the T3 Jeuno Voidwatch... at any rate you wouldn't get lights so you would get **** for plates, just shout for a group and buy their plates.

Since you guys took the time to respond with good suggestions and answers to my questions, I figured i should update you. I've been trying to do a ton of reading to see what's what with the current activities in the game and I've slightly changed my course of action. I've diverted to gearing THF for the time being so I can start earning some money. It appears that all gear upgrades are basically funded by farming now and it seems like I may be able to farm faster as THF (we'll see, but doing 8-9k Rudra's WITHOUT a ws set seems so broken). I've also had someone semi-take me under their wing and offer to introduce me to some content so i can get my feet wet. So, long story short, I'm working on getting myself into a regular Dynamis farming rotation both for currency and relic gear for the jobs I like. Also Sparks farming for Rem's Tales and farming Bayld for WKR's. As soon as my gear isn't total crap, I may try to get some Delve clears and start participating in Unity.

We shall see. But I'm having fun, therefore so far it's a win!

I am really glad to hear that. Yeah, THF is just awesome right now. From what I am seeing the BST changes are helpful but nothing rudra's storm level there. THF is just going to be more useful overall in terms of other people wanting you in their groups as well as soloing stuff you want, so yeah, glad to see you went that route (though I dearly love bst)

Glad to hear someone has taken you under their wing as well. It makes all the difference having friends in the game.

Quickie question: What is the most time efficient way for a returning player to make Bayld fast? I am back only a week and quit at SoA release so I don't I have much Adoulin "fame" and haven't done WKR yet at all. I have a friend who wants to help me get some WKR wins this weekend and I need to earn enough Bayld to buy entry items (I do have enough fame to buy them now). I have been spamming chapuli wing turn-ins as fast as Impr. refresh and I turned my copper vouchers into Bayld. I was literally going to go out and just kill Colonization and Lair Rieves on my BST unless someone has a better idea.

In case you're wondering "what's the rush?", my playtime during the week doesn't match his and we happen to have time Saturday to get clears- I don't want to waste that time farming because I am short on Bayld.

Thanks in advance!!

The quickest way is enter Yorcia Weald skirmish, get the noetic ascension and select "bayld" get 5000 bayld, and warp out. It's better if you have a few people (because everyone gets the 5K bayld and less running back and making new KI) but you can do it solo from yorcia easily because the mobs don't attack you unless you attack them.

You can do other skirmishes if you want but yorcia is the best because the mobs are only aggressive to the canton.

It's better to save your coupons for plasm or other harder to get currencies. Once you get going you'll never have to worry about bayld.

Also get going on the courier's coalition, once you've got it unlocked to higher tiers it's the easiest and cheapest bayld of all, you just get the assignment, walk out the door, warp, talk to NPC warp back and get bayld.

Update!!
So, in an effort to collect all the home point crystals near the WKR's I ended up soloing quite a few Colonization Reives. And that gave me enough Bayld to buy a few KI's for WKR. And when I attended the WKR and participated and we won, I got some nice Bayld- which led to me being able to buy more entry KI's. Rinse and repeat!

Made for a very productive Saturday. Jumped in a Morimar WKR shout, saw the mechanics, won and got Bayld and RoE KI. Same for Kamir Drifts (though the NM was decidedly harder- I had to run in and out repeatedly to avoid the AoE's or I was face down in my own yellow snow...)
Then I decided to run my own shouts and got the other 4 WKR done and got uber lucky on THF drops- Atoyac and Canny Cape as well as a few nice upgrades for WAR and BST.

Next question is a macro question... with the advent of /equipset, I can start to house gear swaps in my ws macros. Here is how I currently have a macro written:

/equipset 11
/ja "Sneak Attack" <me>
/wait 1
/ws "Rudra's Storm" <t>

Do I need the wait between the ja and the ws?

And for reg. ws macro:

/equipset 11
/wait 1
/ws "Rudra's Storm" <t>

Do I need the /wait in there?

Sorry for the semi-noobish questions, but when last i played, I didn't really use THF in any capacity beyond easy farming and the whole /equipset thing is completely new. Thanks for your patience and help!

Last question- hard to find any definitive info online related to Jugo Kukri. I know it's dropped off the Unity NM bird and that fight costs 3500 accolades. Can't find anything about drop rates or if the bird also drops the +1 or if that is upgraded only (from NQ). If it's upgrade, what is the item/items?

Sorry for a million questions- I am so excited to be playing this game again that my brain goes 1000 mph about FFXI when I'm AFK lol.

Any Unity NM can drop their +1 versions, just have to hope you get lucky. Couldn't tell you actual rates.

As for the macro question, unless you're in a particularly laggy area, you shouldn't need the wait before an action executes. Only time you do need a wait is if you intend to change the same slot multiple times in succession. I would advise against, however, pairing SA with your WS macro.

Here's what I'd do:
SA: /equipset X > /recast "Sneak Attack" > /ja "Sneak Attack" <me>
WS: /equipset Y > /echo Executing Rudra's Storm on <t>. > /ws "Rudra's Storm" <t> > /wait 1 > /equipset Z

Set X would be what you'd want to use with plain ol' Sneak Attack. Since no WS is involved, this'll likely mean some DEX neck/belt is also involved, thus the distinction. Y would be your Rudra's set. Z is your TP set. The wait is to assure you WS in your WS set and generally tied to the global delay, give or take a few milleseconds and lag. Basically, you wanna optimize being back in your Haste/TP gear again ASAP. The only real flaw with this macro pairs is when using SA individually, as you'd need a third macro to get back into your TP gear if you don't want to spend TP yet for your Rudra. This is largely a concern for SA prepping, or even TA. Fortunately, THF isn't a super macro heavy job, so the default 20 should cover you.

If you indeed break them into 2 separate macros, how do you prevent SA from being wasted on an autoattack between the time you use the SA macro and the WS macro?

Triggering SA itself will incur the global delay. By the time you actually see it go off, you're free to fire your WS macro. Though I'd say this window is about a half-second, especially if at high haste value.

Somebody more knowledgeable may want to correct me, but I think I read that there was no point equipping separate gear for SA, as the DEX was calculated at the actual hit.

Or do I need to do my macros again lol?

It is calculated on the actual hit, yes. Swapping gear with it is more a matter of running it independently of a WS. That might not be too desired nowadays since Rudra got its buff, but I wouldn't be surprised if there's a bit mix of ATK/DEX/Crit damage than straight up TP gear to get the most out of an individual use.

Okey dokey, thanks.

As an aside- Anyone have any tips on a fast way to churn out accolades? I'm trying to do the RoE Unity quests but it seems like they are slow to accumulate. I thought I read somewhere about people doing x,y,z to cap them and go run "Wanted NM's". Seems like getting to 50k accolades would take like 48 hours of playtime- am I missing something?

They take a long time. Personally I lose the motivation to worry about them unless there is a double accolade campaign going on.

Go to an Adoulin area during the gain exp RoE window, put on any objectives relevant crystals, kills etc. Kill everything in sight to keep a nice xp chain and you'll probably cap in a couple of hours. They boosted the rewards on some objectives, I cant remember the exact figure from yesterday but it was 350 - 370 accolades per completion. If you can kill in gate areas relatively fast solo (gogo rudra's spam) it's even quicker.
