Sunshine Seeker, a celebratory event featuring the mandragora Babban Ny Mheillea, will make an appearance starting on November 10. Get your hands on some mandragora-themed outerwear, an alter ego of Babban Ny Mheillea, and much more before time runs out!
Screenshot

  • Event Period:
Monday, November 10, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. (PST) to Tuesday, November 25 at 6:00 a.m

  • Getting Started
Chat up Babban Ny Mheillea in one of the following locations to collect your very own mandragora masque and mandragora suit, and don your new attire to hear an explanation about how the game works.

Southern San d'Oria (I-8) / Bastok Mines (H-9) / Windurst Walls (H-11)

  • Standing Under the Sun!
The goal of Sunshine Seekers is to collect as many shards of sunlight as you can in the time allotted. Players will be reduced to level one for the duration and an on-screen timer will start to tick down. Grab as many shards as you can within three minutes from the sparkles throughout the area.

But don't let your guard down! Some of Babban's most loyal friends-Abenzio, Bryher, Camlin, and Darach-are patrolling the area waiting to pounce on unsuspecting victims. If they catch you, the amount of time you have to collect shards may decrease-or you might even lose some you've already collected! Put those stealth skills to use by avoiding their watchful gaze.

When you're done collecting shards, bring them back to Babban Ny Mheillea, who will give you a number of small seeds corresponding to your efforts. These seeds can either be exchanged for items or traded in for a shot at Babban's grab bag. If you try the grab bag enough times, you'll get a chance at an even more special grab bag containing fabulous prizes!
* Take care! You will lose all your shards if time runs out or if you leave the area.

Just a heads up on some stuff about this event.

There is a Cipher for 300 seeds, and 2 +1 Mandragora head/body at 500 seeds a piece. If you get one of the +1 pieces, I believe it doubles your shard harvesting rate? And if you have both +1 pieces it's triple? While you may get double/triple shards now; getting hit by his friends also takes double/triple shards away from you. The double/triple isn't confirmed I didn't really pay too much attention.

Note: The Mandragoa Cipher has double attack from the beginning which is nice. Wild Oats? I think it's named, does quite a bit of damage too when she uses it.

If you're going for completionist; get one of the +1 first to be able to gather more shards per harvest. If you're going for the Cipher, just get that and you're done.

There are 3 grab bags that I know of so far:

I am not sure what range of items you get but it seems to almost work just like the Mystery Box special dials. Good luck!

50 seed grab bag, 250 seed grab bag, 500 seed grab bag. After I bought 3 of the 500 seed grab bags I stopped doing the event. I was trying to see if there would be any more possible information about the event somewhere before I did the event again.

If anyone has anything to add please do! If the 500 seed bag is the highest it goes then I'm done with the event I suppose.

This game is extremely aggravating so I'd recommend everyone just get the cipher if they want it and don't bother with the crappy grab bags... but you'll see ... you'll see!

Also I wouldn't wait till the very end of the event to do it because you're competing for shards (when someone clicks a sunlight spot the number of shards it gives goes down by one or even disappears, so the more people doing the event the harder it is to get shards)

I imagine a lot of people are procrastinating about getting the cipher so ... yeah I would be careful because this very aggravating event is even more aggravating when you're competing for shards. I already switched the nation where I was doing it because it was so hard to get any.

PS: you can teleport using home points during the event with no penalty but the time lost. It makes the windurst one go from impossible to merely annoying.(I actually found it better than basty because of the crystals being spread out). I suggest setting HP to crystal on top of the AH in walls (beside the mandy) because I lost a number of shards when I just barely didn't make it back to the mandy after juggling the nested menus.

I think having both +1 pieces may quadruple the shards you get. Highest I got with neither was 5, highest with one 10, with both I'm sometimes getting 20. I'm not sure it's the same for when you get found though. Babban's Progeny was taking 2/4/6. And Camlin (the cactaur) seems to be weird. I've had it only take one sometimes, but once it took 24. o.O

The behavior of the points feels a lot like mining - if one area is cleared out, there'll usually be a bunch somewhere else.

When I was doing this event last night (Windurst Walls, Lakshmi), all of those wandering npcs that are supposed to get in your way were just... dead. Their corpses littered the zone, they were targetable and all, but they just stayed there dead and never moved and never got in your way. Not a clue what caused that to happen, but it made getting all the necessary points probably a lot easier than it would have been (Windurst Walls seems like a terrible zone to do the event in too, what with all those narrow pathways...)

I learned from JPs yesterday how to kill the npcs. Simply while doing the event the npcs can be ranged attacked causing them to die in 3-4 hits.

This was after the emergency zone maintenance that happen yesterday in Southern Sandy.

Whatever you do, don't do this in Windy. With so many narrow paths, dodging the mobs is pretty difficult. As a result, turning in more than 15 shards is on more the rare side. Doing it in Sandy, however, felt significantly easier even with the mobs alive. Once you get a feel for where the points spawn, doing a run with less than 20 is actually pretty rare if too many people aren't playing, too. Get both the +1 items and getting 150+ shards per run is also likely. Just note that being attacked by mobs like this results in significantly greater losses, too. Had one run where I went from 180 to 50 with one Camlin aggro. :(

I actually found windy easier than bastok because I used the home points.

But the narrow walks are a #$%^

Been out of FFXI aside from running Salvage for cash/Mythic crap due to arranging a funeral, but what are the rewards for this? Is there a Trust or is it just event gear?

There is a mandragora trust. It does less damage than a BST pet... but completionism!

500 grab bag has a decent chance of getting Rem Ch. 1-5 but most of the time its either Vilma's ring, Cassie's earring or a random seed. Used to farm points before the inevitable dead npc fix.

This is an interesting event but for me it's not one I can spam very much as I tend to lose patience with it pretty quickly.
Once I got the cipher, I got x2 50 point seed bags then quit that character to do something else.
Strange enough I enjoyed the gobby/moogle/aldo event more (once I got the hang of what you're supposed to do that is) but I never did get the hang of mumor. (Despite getting some excellent advice from here, I just couldn't get the hang of it.)

I really hope they add mumor to the festive moogle lists at some point.

Is she available with the green mog pell they sent everybody. I thought I saw trusts available, but didn't pay close attention since I already have them all.

I think the cactaur and the goobue might both be some kind of random percentage. Wearing both +1 items, I've had either of them only take a single shard sometimes, but I've also had both of them take more than half of what I've got.

I'm not sure if I like doing it in Sandy better or not. There's more room to avoid the mobs, but it feels like I run into more on any given pass than I do in Windurst.
