Hello all,

The other day I was reading about the Trust system in FFXI and thought it sounds like a good idea and decided to fire up FFXI and roll a new character. I've not played for quite sometime (over a year) and would like to ask some questions.

1- Will the Trust system allow me more freedom to solo stuff? When I last played, I was doing those pages from the books around the world. Will the NPC help me with those?

2- When I first played (talking 2005 here) my jobs were White Mage/Black Mage. Now I'm thinking of trying a melee character. Maybe a Warrior? Is this a good choice? I really don't fancy buying all those spells again for a caster job.

3- Which server might be a good choice to play on these days please?

Many thanks

1) Absolutely. Only certain (mostly endgame) situations you cannot use Trusts in.

2) Warrior is a solid choice. Won't get into a lot in endgame but that's really not the most important thing to consider, and it's the de facto subjob for almost any melee so it's good to have it anyway.

3) I don't know a ton about server populations, but I know Asura has the resident reddit population, so you can post on /r/ffxi and join their linkshell instantly.

Thanks for the replies.

Can I also please ask? Is it possible to install FFXI from one PC to another without having to download the whole game again? Can this be done?

Thanks again

WAR is a Beast for grabbing Sparks of Eminence (which are good for upgrading AF armor, some of which is awesome).

WAR is hardly the only job capable of doing this, but it is pretty d*mn good at it: The "Deal 500+ Damage" Records of Eminence objective is laughably easy to do with WAR: Every swing deals more than 500 damage while you're at Lv99 with Sparks gear. And since WAR has not only Double Attack, but also +7% double attack chance from the Reforged Boots and Legs, plus the ability to upgrade "Double Attack" in Merits five times, and the job trait itself according to FFXIclopedia, means you have a 22% chance of double-attacking assuming you have nothing else that adds to it.

Long story short: Each time you fill that Records objective in, you get 1000 sparks and 5000xp (half a merit!). It does not take too long to get 200 swings. To get it done even faster, bring Ayame along. She'll use a good weaponskill that chains with your most recent weaponskill used whenever you get to 1000TP. Skillchains count as a separate damage source so each weaponskill + skillchain is worth 2 towards the Records objective.

It is.... fairly difficult to do.

BUT, if you are just coming back to the game then you probably need to buy Seekers of Adoulin, right? Get the Seekers Ultimate Edition (which includes all the expansions, add-on scenarios, etc). You can buy this digitally from several places (Square's store, Amazon, etc). Download it once, and install it on both computers. Installing from the Ultimate Seekers edition is far, far, far faster than using the individual install disks from previous collections/expansions/etc but it still STILL take awhile as the game insists on running a check on all 45,000 some files the first time you go to launch the game.

Thanks,

I purchased the Ultimate Collection when I played last. I think this has everything included? Oh I also purchased the Seekers expansion from the Square Store.

Trying to "install" it on a new computer without a full install is more hassle than it's worth. Way too many issues that can crop up. If you got the Ultimate Collection before, then yes the SoA expansion should be all you need to be caught up.

Anyone out there that might have a rough idea about server population these days? I'm just wondering which server to start back on. What's the numbers like on Asura.

Asura is one of the more populated but I think they are still generally very close.
