As much as I'd hate to say it.. I'd say it's about time FFXI does a price drop. Say $9.99 a month. It's only 3 dollars, but I don't think it would hurt development any since at this point they are just milking content and promotions. The only way I would see the price remaining the same is if they redid the graphics kind of like what they did with WOW.

The only time a price drop would make sense is if it's turning no profit. XI is still turning in a hefty profit at current prices.

Eh... not necessarily. If a price drop increased subscriptions, that could result in a net gain in profit. It depends on how many more people it brought in.

Pretty much. This is partly why Steam thrives despite the frequent sales on things even released within the past 6 months. Yes, lack of physical media is part of the equation, thus no need for shipping, storage, or really paying a guy to stand at a counter and run a register. However, even if one person at $15 turns into 2 at $8, SE wins. "But they'd be at $30 with the 2!" Well, that second person simply wouldn't buy in at $15.

I agree a price drop should, even needs to, happen. On the other hand, I could see them trying an XI and XIV bundle again where $20 a month might get both. Of course, XI eliminating the $1 per mule charge might be the real first step needed in this process.

the mule charge sort of makes sense atm - it's essentially paying to get login bonuses and such. I used to deactivate my mules when I wasn't using them but login campaigns have stopped that for the most part. I'd love a joint sub - not because I want to play XIV (I don't) but it sure would be nice if a few of my friends that left XI for XIV would drop in once in awhile. Maybe they wouldn't but even a few of them doing so would increase my enjoyment of the game significantly (thus increasing the liklihood I stay subbed)

A lower base sub price would be great, but then again, they probably see very very few new players so... yeah. What would probably work better for them in terms of the kind of subs they actually get is to allow multimonth subs (with small, mostly-cosmetic bonuses) at a slightly lower rate per month. Might stop some ragequits that way (or at least get more money out of them) by getting folks to pay up front to get the discount.

Give me a 6 month sub (including 1 content ID) for 10 bucks a month and I'd be all over that. If it came with a ring with 5 charges on it that would teleport me to my home city - I'd be even more into it.

I don't get how this works. I've stopped playing for a few months and all my characters say cancelled on them. I've never deleted my FFXI off my PC, do you still have to enter in your card details before it gives you a week free?

Yeah I dont get this either. I downloaded the game and jumped through about 10 hours of hoops like always and it just says I have to pay to reactivate my character on the square enix account page. I cant figure out how i get anything for free. I click on the official webpages and go around in circles to precisely NOWHERE.

I mean its great that you want me to play and all that square.. but you need to actually tell me HOW TO PLAY. It just says I need to buy a content ID on the good ol' retarded playonline log in page. Oh the sweet memories of gilsellers are already fresh in my mind.

I think if I do come back I have to start a new account. I was having issues with my account last time. I kept getting messages about my account being used already when trying to log in all the time. I got sick of it and quit.

I can't imagine starting over again. I know the game has changed more than I can imagine. It's nothing like the way it used to be, but FFXI will always be the best game I've ever played. Nothing at all comes close to the memories this game has left on me. Never spent so much time on anything as I did with all the events and adventuring in Vanadiel.

I'm really surprised this game is still going strong. It makes me happy. I just wonder if I'd be able to handle starting from scratch. I know FF14 would probably be easier to jump into, but I like FFXI a lot and there's so much I never got to do. Don't even know if it's worth it anymore. I always miss this game though.

Another guy that restarted a few weeks ago who posted around here is already level 60+ on a number of jobs, done lots of mission content etc.

The leveling has been sped up considerably, and now there are trusts - basically NPCs you can call to fill out your party whether you are solo or playing with a couple folks. If you get it while it's on sale it's a cheap trip down memory lane, if nothing else.
