What exactly is this? I see it's a kind of boss fight but don't know anymore than that.

I've been back a month now and done a few reives but I've seen this and saw that it has some nice gear from it.

Is this a group based fight that you enter with your party or is it something like campaign where you can enter solo and zerg the boss?

It's closer to campaign battle, yeah. Except that there is a never ending supply of trash mobs (which might be safer to fight, for the people that cannot hang around the big boss for long and stay alive) until the big boss dies.

You need a special key item to be able to participate in a WKR, and even then it's only good for one round. It's purchased with what's initially a large chunk of bayld, but as you build up your coalition ranks by using imprimaturs, the price gradually drops to a minimum of 15k bayld.

If you do a WKR make sure to flag the relevant Records of Eminence objective, as these are what bestow the "paragon" KIs upon the naakual's defeat, these are what allow you to slap some augments onto the i115 WKR gear that drops.

Fynlar's answer covers most of the basics well, but a few additional notes:

There is an HP outside each WKR, so you can get to them quickly.

Many of the properties of the boss mob are effected by the zone's colinization rate; originally, this made for some very long fights, but most are relatively fast now. However, depending on colinization and people in attendence, you could be looking at an hour or more in a worst case.... or under 10 minutes in a best case.

Like other revies, you will get exp and bayld periodically through the fight, and individual drops at the end. Assuming you are not worried about exp and plasm, you can jump in even near the end and get drops and key items.

You can call NPCs in the battle, so it is fully reasonable to show up alone, assuming you know others are already there oron their way.

And again, make sure you set the RoE objective before the battle ends.

I could be wrong but I don't think you can set the RoE objectives until you have beat them at least once. Probably so that you can get your picks from the library in E. Adoulin

You can set the RoE objectives the first time through. Aside from the tree one, I've only done each one once and completed the RoE quest on all of them.

Final question, do you get points xp and balyd for curing as you do for attacking?

Every healer I see seems to be an alt, are healers at a disadvantage?

It's difficult to get credited as well for healing unless you have a means of hitting everyone in range with an AoE effect (for instance, Blood Pacts will hit everyone in range even if they aren't in the SMN's party) AND a lot of people show up AND they're all actually taking significant enough damage to be healed.

So, no, it isn't as easy.

I dunno, in my experience I get a LOT of credit for being whm... but only when I am in the party with the pld and doing the majority of cure bombing. That said, that only applies to Kumhau really. Other ones BLU or BST are really good if you're going in solo. PLD is great for most of them too.

I go almost exclusively SMN to WKR. As Fynlar mentioned you can buff non party members and the magic merit BPs work great. Can get 11k with Empy+2 if Blood Boon kicks in. That's with crap gear.

For example, in Yorcia, I use Garuda and Hasteaga melee and use Wind Blade on the NM. For Morimar, I use Leviathan with Spring Water to cure and Grand Fall for DMG.

For those who don't have much experience doing WKRs, there are two approaches to doing these.

The first is to focus on the main monster. PLD, WHM (curing PLD) BLM, SCH, SMN, RNG, COR and BLU (and some I'm probably forgetting) do very well at this; basically tanks, nukes and ranged attacks. However, many of the mobs have powerful AOE attacks (particularly the newer ones) which can quickly take out people meleeing.

The second approach is to spend your time killing the fodder mobs that will endlessly spawn throughout the battle. Most DDs will excel at this, and while it does not do much to advance the overall course of the battle (besides keeping mobs off of the tanks, nukers and ranged attackers) but can generate a lot of bayld and exp--in longer battles, it is possible to cap these out pretty easily.

Honetly though, you may not want to decide your job for these based on exp and bayld returns; the exp is fairly minimal, and can easily be generated through any number of other activities at a much faster rate. The bayld isn't bad, but again, can be generated much faster through other means (coalition assignments, lair revies, etc...) The real returns are the drops on completion and KIs awarded for the event.

My opinion:

Kumhau: Really needs a good PLD and WHM and some ranged magic to hit his staggers. Back up PLD and WHM very helpful. I've gone on BST before and chipped away at him with some smns.
Yorcia Tree: I honestly don't know. This guy is terrible with his doomga. Ranged magic is probably most useful.
Hurkan: I usually bring my BST to this one. Lots of SMN and ranged magic. I never see him being PLD tanked.
Achuka: He goes down to anything. I usually go BLU and hit him with my sword.
Bee: I have tanked it on BLU a number of times. PLD and whm is better but I've managed to hold it for a good long while, especially with some support.
