hello. It's been a while since my friends and I have considered playing this game again. We quit the same day the level cap was raised to 80 because we knew the game we loved was about to change and weren't sure what to think about it. Anyway after playing FFXIV since 1.0 and since it's recent release last august, I am the only one still playing FFXIV out of my friends. They all quit because that game lacks many elements we enjoyed in FFXI including a real end game. At least until an expansion comes out it looks like.

Anyway I was wondering how the game is now compared to when the level cap was 75. Is the game still fun? Is there a lot of things to do for a level 99 character? And being level 75 at the moment, how difficult would it be to reintegrate ourselves into the game? (Some of my friends need to start over but we will be helping them out).

I would also like to know if there are any in depth guides I could read about everything that was added since the cap was raised past 75, and what things I should doing. I never entered abyssea and havent been keeping up with anything FFXI related for years. I looked online and couldn't find anything in depth that I'm looking for. If anyone could link me something that would be much appreciated.

The last thing I would like to ask is about server population. I understand some servers are starting to see less people logging in. Are there any servers that still see 2k+ people logged in? We would like to go to a server thats populated if at all possible. We are currently on Fairy server (I believe thats where we are now our old server got merged I think).

Thanks in advance for any information you guys can give me!

Hi!

You should definitely read the stickies for pretty much everything that has been added.

Since 75, you have the whole Abyssea add-on and the full Seekers of Adoulin expansion to experience. You've got all the previous content that can be solo'd or low-manned. Plus a tonne of QoL adjustments to make adventuring even more enjoyable! Everything is very accessible now.

Also, I've just returned on a new character on Asura and see 1300+ online during JP prime time so I imagine US prime time would be the same, if not more.

Welcome back!

Fairy became Sylph.

That said, I think getting into pertinent endgame PUG content will probably be your biggest hurdle if you don't enough friends to flesh out your own party of 6. Whether or not you bother with Abyssea or other non-ilvl content is pretty much a matter of choice, but I wouldn't say they're particularly story rich. Spending some time working on RoE and getting sparks gear should generally get you Adoulin ready and isn't very hard to do, especially with Monstrosity in Bubu.

From my observing other conversations, I'd say NA/EU populations are generally lower than JPs. The 2k+ days are behind us, which some feel calls for the need for merges, but it hasn't happened yet and you do see some issues with congestion even now. So, if your friends are in, I'd figure you can at least get a few months out of play depending on how much you could actually play.

Abyssea still has a lot of important little bits. Like instruments for bard that are critically important, other gear for mages, and accessories for a lot of jobs. Epona's ring, Pan's horn, Crooner's Cithera, Apollo's Flute, etc.

To the OP, the main things you should look up are:

Trust magic: http://wiki.bluegartr.com/bg/Category:Trust
Records of Eminence: http://wiki.bluegartr.com/bg/Category:Records_of_Eminence
Abyssea: http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/forum.html?forum=10&mid=1302734602166646684 is helpful
Voidwatch: http://wiki.bluegartr.com/bg/Category:Voidwatch
Reives: (adoulin content) http://wiki.bluegartr.com/bg/Reive (Check Wildskeeper especially)
Skirmish: http://wiki.bluegartr.com/bg/Category:Skirmish
Hard Mode battles: http://wiki.bluegartr.com/bg/Category:High-Tier_Mission_Battlefields

Also check out reforged relic and artifact equipment, and check out what you can buy from the peacekeeper's guild in Adoulin with your balyd.

There is also

Delve: http://wiki.bluegartr.com/bg/Delve

But it's a bit harder and I'd focus on the above first for gearing up.
