Is it possible to do the story like this?Follow

Hello everyone. I've played this game on and off since release but I've never gotten very far. Recently I decided to purchase all the expansions and content along with my friend. Right now, more than anything, what I want to do is finally go through the main story and start seeing more of the world and accessing the expansion content. However, we have a bit of a problem with that.

Is it possible to do the entire main story with only two people? Right now we're looking at doing as a DRK/WAR and a DNC/SAM. As a DRK/WAR, I'm semi-tanking and doing damage, while my friend uses the dancing to heal us and do some additional damage. Is it possible to go through the game like this or will we reach a point where we're going to need a "real" tank and healer? Because my worries with that is if we go as, for example, Paladin and White Mage, that we're then not going to have a damage dealer and it'll also be a bit boring.

Our sever seems kind of dead for people doing our content. Everyone is in the new areas doing only that, so we can't really get a party for this stuff. We also don't want to use Abyssea to level grind to 99 or anything. We're fine with doing some grinding, but we don't want to power-grind through it in Abyssea when we haven't even explored most of the world yet and we'd get bored grinding in the same location for 99 levels.

What do you guys think? Is it do-able like this or are we screwed? Have we missed the chance to ever do the story since everyone is already done with it?

If I recall correctly, most of the stuff is soloable, even more is duoable. This applies to pretty much all story content prior to Adoulin.

I think you can absolutely do it with two people, especially given how easy it is now to level up with the Fields of Valor and Sparks of Eminence. A lot of the Zilart/CoP/ToAU stuff was made for a game that capped at 75, and little of it was increased in difficulty, so if nothing else you can get a little above that to duo what would have taken a party before.

I just recently soloed COP as a BST, and I've done Zilart up to Ark Angels, though I haven't tried ToAU or Adoulin yet; I've soloed Empyrean armor and three pieces of Relic stuff from Dynamis. A lot of the game is a LOT more accessible than it used to be, and my vote is that you won't have a problem: it sounds like fun!

The only thing I might suggest is having the DRK go /WHM. Generally speaking you'll have plenty of DD potential between a DRK/??? and a DNC/??? and the DRK has native MP, so it's better suited for /mage duty than a DNC. Gives you Raise/Reraise should you need it, can sneak/invis itself, can haste both members before big fights, can Erase some status ailments DNC can't (like Bard songs).

You should have no problem. Some of it you will want to be 99 for but a lot of it you'll easily be able to do before that.

How do you get to 99 now? Does anyone still do abyssea? Seems like everyone left is already 99.

Worms parties are still alive and well. If that fails trusts in combo with Grounds of Valour and Records of Eminence is the way to go.

Generally Abby-Lathieme.

Yeah, I saw a shout for one in Adoulin over the weekend myself.

I think the advantage that worm parties have is that you can afk for a bathroom break and still get some exp, provided everyone else didn't also afk. It's just more efficient to have groups of people kill worms every 30 seconds than it is to have yourself and three NPCs killing stuff every three minutes.

Yep. Generally you'll want to be ~75 as a DD so you can contribute a little, at least. The leech/box opener slots tend to get filled fast.

As a hopeless casual, I did it in Campaign. A fight lasts around 30 minutes to an hour, you can get exp by healing as well as by fighting, and I generally got about 8k a fight. If you do an evaluation and re-tag after every eight kills or so, you can get as much as 12k+ a fight. Leaving up one set of tags and joining a union (I prefer Dhole) can net you some nice stuff too, I got a 50k ninja scroll last time. The Allied gear is decent too, once you get into Medals.

I went from 80 to 99 in about two weeks that way, and that's as someone without a lot of time to play. It's one of the few activities I've found (besides Beseiged) that still lets you cooperate with other players outside of a party, and it's really challenging especially if you do Garbage ******** [S] a lot.

Campaign is pretty fun. You can also get skill ups now, and I believe next update you'll be able to call trusts and include them in campaign as well.
