Thinking about returning (care mostly about the story)Follow

Hi, I've been playing ffxi a long long time ago, and now I'm thinking about returning and starting all the way from scratch.

The thing is: I mostly care about the story, and I prefer to play solo, because I work a lot and have little time, due to personal reasons...

What would be the best job to use? I have read about the trust system and thought it might help me out, can I use trust NPCs during story missions?

I have also heard that nowadays you can go all the way to max level in a couple of days, is that so?

For rank/storyline missions, a couple of them involve BCNMs to progress, and there's only one BC we're allowed to bring trusts in, and that's the 99cap quest. So you're gonna need some help with those.

And yes, you can literally and almost without effort, zap from 1 to 99 in just a few days. Though you still need to take breaks to get you LB's done. There's 10 of them now.

With Grounds of Valor, combined with the new xp rate, the levels go by a bit faster than back then.

Sounds good, let's hope there won't be too many of them :)

Btw, what job would be the best to start with? I used to play as a BST and RDM

bst would be good for many of the BCNMs, but all CoP and ZM can be soloed with out much effort once you get to 99. ToAU alex fight you will need help on and couple WotG fights closer to the end. I haven't really bothered with SoA missions, really tired of the gone with the wind and avatar trope so someone else will have to fill you in there. Might get lucky and SE puts a really good piece of gear as the end reward and people might start doing the fights again for it.

I'd start with BST it's cheaper to level and easier to gear half decently

Then get RDM up. The things BST is less good at RDM would do well

RDM will be able to solo anything mission-wise the game can throw at you. You only really need /whm or /blm for it at this point, too, though you'll probably want /nin and /dnc at some point when you do harder content. /Sch is also nice if your skills are underleveled, since it automatically sets your levels at B+ regardless of how underskilled it may be.

Just don't plan on actually using rdm in parties - every other job does what rdm does better. Its versatility makes it one of the best solo jobs though. Most of your damage at later levels comes from spamming low level nukes.

If you want some party potential, level blm. I finally got my own blm to 99 and its made soloing derp easy. BLM also gets access to Spirit Taker while rdm doesn't, giving the blm a great mp recovery option, and can still sub /rdm for refresh I and convert.
