LOL I know the game has life in it. I'm not saying "When is it going to end!?" I'd love to come back and play really. I've been out for a year. I'd really like to post this on the official forums, but since I can't w/out an active account, I thought I'd discuss it here.

I read a recent article on arstechnic: http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2014/02/the-day-the-mario-kart-died-nintendos-killswitch-and-the-future-of-online-consoles/

Its about Nintendo taking down its servers for the Wii and DS games for online play. the Nintendo Titles can only connect to Nintendo's servers for online play, but it doesn't really have to be that way. When Nintendo stops running the servers, why not let others run their own servers. I would like this even more for FFXI and I don't think I"m the only one.

There have been several projects for private servers of Final Fantasy XI also. I've logged into a few before but they didn't keep my attention. However, I would love to see up an FFXI Server to play w/ my sons and maybe a friend or 2.

Final Fantasy games have been known for their longevity and replay value. That's a huge reason FFXI is still running. but eventually I think it will end. I hope someone would make a thread on the official forums and suggest they think about this. It would be a great way to immortalize ffxi when they no longer will maintain it.

What do you think?

I was thinking a PS4 offline version where you import the characters you made and they would be in the offline game.

methinks porting to a new system and rebuilding the game dynamics for single player rather than the multiplayer online environment would be far to expensive. It would be easier (and more profitable) to make a new game than that.

I don't know exactly how feasible it is to make a package of the current server either, but at the simplest they could just make it available for download and let the diehard fans figure it out. That much at least is feasible.

I was thinking about this a while back. Adapt the game with like 64 or so recruitable party members (kinda like Chrono Cross) and just make some adaptations to Besieged, Campaign, like slowing the clock down or having the clock there dependent on player-involvement (i.e. it's in stasis til the player enters the zone or spends enough time in (S) zones, the Near East, etc). Add in bestiaries to gather like FFXII had.
