Indeed, open world is archaic, should never be done again and quite frankly, was always a terrible, terrible concept. Going into a dungeon and seeing other parties there? That was pretty stupid, it was almost as if it was a MMORPG.

....

Anyway the kickstarter seems interesting but sadly this is an age of MMORPG gamers that want single player instant gratification experiences rather than an MMORPG.

It's interesting how things have gone full circle since FFXI and Everquest was released isn't it?
The idea of playing with other people seemed amazing back then but now we get fed up if our progress ingame is halted by the lack of players or have a preference to solo.

(Or having to deal with other players when it comes to them lotting your stuff for that matter.)

To me, a lack of instanced content means people camping on top of each other for loot dragons or spamming enter on a battlefield entrance. It means dealing with morons who get everyone else killed during a WKR because they've never been in a big time fight before. I get that it doesn't have to be like that, but if they're going for the old school MMO experience that's exactly what it'll be.

Actually I think the bolded part is exactly one of the things they'll avoid by minimizing instanced content.

The rest, I don't disagree with, but I also think it's what makes an MMO an MMO. You're not just in it alone; There are other real people who affect your outcome.

And to me that's fine to an extent. I don't mind dealing with others in a cooperative sense, but I didn't start playing an MMO to fight against other players. I want to fight with them on the same side. I guess I'm just weird that way, but then I'm weird in a lot of ways so it's par for the course.

That's not weird at all and I do feel that as things have progressed in FFXI as technology gets better, then there might be a future of having more instanced battles going on.
That will only come if there is enough demand for it and only if it doesn't mess with say 20 other parties that may want to gain access at the same time.

One thing I have noticed with the recent additions to AF upgrades are places like Limbus have been seeing some interest as I have had some issues with entering Apollyon NW for ABC farming.
It's easy to solo that place with most jobs now and people tend to which locks others out.

Another thing that has come up about the 119 synthesis mats selling for millions.. :(
