Returning player... Totally lost.Follow

#1 Jan 19 2014 at 9:34 PM Rating: Decent
So, I last logged in in January of last year, and prior to that, the last time I seriously played, Abyssea was the new and "in" thing to do. Well lately I've been wanting to play again. I know the expansion came out right after I stopped playing, but from what Im seeing, there are a LOT of tings that have changed in the last year, and a lot of new things. So my questions are where do I start beyond getting te expansion? I had most of Abyssea done, as in atmas and boss kills, though I never got an empy or any of the gear for any of my 95-99 jobs.

So where would I begin when I resub? Is there a list of everything that's changed and what's new? Also, how much of the new stuff can I do without the Expansion, since It might have to wait till next paycheck to pick it up, depending on how much I have left this one.

You should start records of emininece and trust right away. You can earn sparks for basic gear for adoulin before you shell out for the expansion. That way it will be easier to solo rieves and stuff to do assignments and bring up your colonization ranks

Sorry on phone so formatting ugh:

Welcome back to the world of ffxi. I'm also considering of coming back, right now I'm still working on some of the technical issues of log into the game. The problem is that I'm currently in Taiwan, and I have searched in forums that I need to setup a fixed IP before I can start the game....
not sure if I still need to do that, if so, do you guys happen to have a old thread or guide linking to setting up for the fixed ?

Thanks~

Thanks for the links and info, gotta say, even without taking SoA into account, there's a lot of new things, and a ton of changes this past year. So I looked through the eminence system, and the weapons at 99 seem good at a glance, but since I don't have a relic or empy or mythic, would one of them do enough to get me started in the expansion, at least towards getting whatever the new uber weapons are? As in, if I'm using one, will I actually be able to do anyting, or will it be the R/M/E or bust that the game was when I left?

You will be able to do a lot. The uber content with the uber people, maybe not, but it will be enough to get you into skirmish where you will be able to (soon) build a level 119 weapon.

So, it will definitely give you something to use that is scaled for adoulin content while you get something better.

I don't think many people are using RME anymore since weapons from other content are same power or better without spending a billion gil

So another question. Pretty sure of the answer, but rather be sure one way or the other, and browsing the web isn't exactly a good enough experience on this Wii U to find confirmation myself. My laptop is in need of repair, not really sure what's wrong with it this time, so it's not useable, and as such, I have to use my old Xbox 360 copy and system to play until I can get it repaired. My question is, do I need the actual disc for the SoA expansion, or is it automatically downloaded like the Abyssea addons, and I can just get and apply the code? Can't find a copy of the disc or the Ultimate edition anywhere around me, and thought I'd ask before shopping around online for it.

I've just returned also and noticed my Magian Trial weapons that i've completed don't have the augment listed on them anymore. What happened?

They added a second page for augments due to the increased amount of stats on newer gear, press the - on the numeric keypad.

You need the disc. Pretty sure once it's installed you don't need to run it off the disc with the expansion but the expansion data needs to come from the disc to get initial install.

So I got SoA installed and all, got to Auodolin, even unlocked Geomancer (and man, I thought Cor dice were expensive, Geo spells are a nightmare) and thanks to my Blu and RoE, I got the outrider and wayferer sets and working on the third not counting the skillup set, as well as the eminent weapons for Blu, Bst, and Sam. So what should I focus on next? There's so many things I'm actually a bit overwhelmed. From what I've read around on various sites, Delve is pretty out of the question being I lack any Delve weapons or a good support job. Should I focus on reforged AF? Or just do the quests in Auodolin? Or something else altogether? And are all servers so dead? Or is it just Phoenix? Aside from some shouts for SKC and AA things, the only shouts I see are people buying or selling stuff like hmp or beastly shanks. Amd throughout the week, there's rarely more than 800 or so players on when I do a /sea all.

On a side note, something I've been wondering. A friend and I duoed/soloed through Chains of Promathia, after they cut out the level caps and such, but hes long since quit. And I really doubt I'll find people willing to go along with me nowadays, but I'd like to complete the ToaU and WotG storylines. So I'm curious as to how much if any of them are soloable now? I'm assuming with the new high itemlevel armor and weapon sets things should be pretty easy, but then I've never got very far in them to know what's what. The job's I have at 99 with the necessary skills and all are Blu, Sam, and Bst, though I don't have any of the -pdt gear really.

Think the only Final fights would need help and even then you would only need one or two others to help. I would shout and see if anyone bites on the week ends.

Delve is going to be remade for parties of 6 soon FYI.

I've found shouting has died down quite a bit. I think people are starting to return to doing stuff in shells more (maybe that's just me) but the one thing Adoulin did is it brought a lot of the more casual players to the same level - like before there were a lot of folks who had an 85 empy WAR or MNK and were pretty casual but those weapons really left them a cut above.

Now its a lot easier for anyone to get a "end game class" weapon. I think lowering the power differentials between players actually makes it easier to play with your friends.

I think the first thing you should do is find a shell. That's the best entry into getting ilevel gear other than ROE. Skirmish is super accessible and it drops some really nice stuff - all of which will be upgradable to 119 as well.

Yea I wouldn't mind having an ls, but I've not been in one for a while, since right around the first Abyssea addon when it broke, and with the world forums here and the official forums,at least for Phoenix, being basically dead, I've no ckue how to get one without knowing someone and all. Shouting for one didn't work before my long hiatus, and I doubt it will this time either sadly. So right now I'm just grinding up some of the jobs I never leveled as well as Geo,while working on ToAU, the things I can at least.

Gotta say, I'm loving the trust npcs. Finally got some well deserved revenge on the sky gods, including te oversized cat itself, Kirin. I probably could have taken them all just BST, but it was far more fun with a party of npcs. Sadly didn't get any of the once-awesome drops, but it sure was fun.

I got my shell through shouting for some folks to bust down walls to get waypoints... they said they were already doing it - invited me along, and it was fun (and I was too) so they gave me an invite. I've had success in the past by joining something low key, giving it my best, and then after asking if anyone has a social I can join before I drop the party. Shouting doesn't usually work because people want to get to know you a bit before inviting. So, yeah, if you want a shell, try joining some stuff.
