Anniversary! 10 years anyone? :)Follow

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Ok as many of you are aware, FFXI has been released in Japan for eleven years! (Hence all the lovely login events and giveaways we've been enjoying this year!)
However, some players might be celebrating their 10th year in Vanadiel as FFXI came up for official NA release in October 2003.
My main character hit 10 last month as I had to import my NA copy of FFXI from the internet because most EU people had no idea if the game was ever going to be released over here..

Tons and tons of lovely RPG titles were never realsed in EU regions at the time and having something like FFXI that was playable on the pc was amazing as anyone anywhere in the world could play it.

It was only the following September of 2004 when we actually found out what being region locked actually ment as CoP expansion was released along with all of Europe suddenly being able to play.
We were going in to our local game shops and finding out that we couldn't just buy a copy of the expansion off the shelf and expect it to work as the codes were regionalised. ><

So how many anniversaries in FFXI do you have?

My character will be 10 years old in about a month... which, given that Vana'diel time is 25x Earth, Renatus is in surprisingly good shape, what with all the jumping and running he does.

My 9 year anniversary was in September, so I've still got a bit before I hit a decade.

I believe March will be my ten year anniversary. (I think that was when the floodgates were open to PS2 players).

Sometime in 2004 here...I don't remember.

My character is from 2006 though - they lost my old version and I had to re-buy FFXI in 2006 to play again ,was annoying.

AHEM! WOW! So...true.story...I.was.on.youtube.surfing.the.usual.time.passers....and.I.found.some.tunes. Like the Sandy theme etc. It tore at my heart strings and I started to cry. SSOOO I googled my char. name and forgot about this forum!

I'm only here making a shoutout :) I miss you guys... I still remember you Renatus. 7 long years ago.

I had never played a Final Fantasy game before 11, and I never intended to play 11 either. I used to play Socom II on the PS2 and it was one of the few games other than FFXI to use the HDD. In America atleast, the HDD was only sold in a bundle that included FFXI. I bought the HDD (and therefore FFXI) on release date but FFXI sat unplayed for months. One day (April 4th 2004) I decided to give it a try, and here I am still plugging away. It's hard to believe its been nearly 10 years!

BTW, I switched to PC back in 2008.
