Hello.

I was always was advised that red cells = a better quality of drop but does that include heavy metal pouches and/or heavy metal plates or would blue cells be better to increase chance of those items?

Thankyou

I think the general consensus is that

1) red alignment (what rubicund cells adjust) is the only thing that might affect the chances for one of the mob's rare/unique drops to load in the top slot, because...
2) it is only ever possible to get one of the mobs rare/unique drops (on certain mobs, that does mean heavy metal plates, and pouches for Zilart T3s), and if you do, it will ALWAYS be in the top slot of your loot pool, which seems to indicate that the amount of drops you get doesn't matter because all the rest of them will always be various npctrash

If you have the inventory space and the cruor but you're short on gil, go ahead and use the blue cells too to increase the quantity.

Otherwise, I agree that red is the only important one. I've gotten plates without using red, but it's very rare.

hmm VW is very fickle.
Getting something rewarding from it is very tricky indeed but then again so is winning the lottery which is basically what VW is.

Nobody knows for sure if Cobalt helps you get more chances at the rare drop. It's true that it always loads at the top, but it's not clear whether it's sorted there. You might as well use Cobalt too because Cruor isn't worth much these days.

Cruor is still pretty valuable if you're like me and trying to brew Apademaks to get a 3rd song on your bard. Fortunately, a x12 Uptala run is worth a brew if I don't buy any cells.

I used to use both. Red to increase the chance to get rare with the more uncommon drops, and blue to increase the amount of slots available for items. Since I really don't know how or if TH works in Void Watch. I've always looked to blue as a remedial base line for Tresure Hunter. So instead of say 2 or 3 slots for loot in the box, you now have 4 or 5 with the extra blue. So unles your short on funds it's not a bad thing to have a few more chances with capped red light to score on the loot. With that said it does suck when the guy next to you gets the Ex drop with no cells used or traded.

The real answer to improve your plates and rare drops chances is to complete all VW bosses. With all VW periapts plus the cell bonus, you're increasing your chances to over 700% (iirc) drop rates. (700% of a .01% chance increases drop rates to 7% for example)

The periapts that increase spectral alignment add only 25% each for a bonus of 50% for blue and red. Your max alignment without the periapts is 500% and 550% with them, which means a 50/50 chance of either 5 or 6 items (if you use cobalt cells). 550% is better than 500% but nowhere near 700% Also, only the periapts of concentration affect the number of items you get.

There is actually very little need to defeat every single VW NM because many of them drop the same periapt and some of them only drop an atmacite. Completing the storyline is good for Provenance Watcher access but won't have much of an effect on your drops.

Essentially all that is needed is to just kill enough for progression to the next tier and the acquisition of the more important Periapts/Atmacites. There are plenty Voidwatch monsters that aren't needed or even useful, with no useful Atmacites/Periapts whatsoever, and certainly no good gear drops.

which is one of the crappy things about voidwatch. Getting progression is out the window now - not that most people would even care since the drops are largely meaningless now...
