Accidental Lotting: Help?Follow

My LS friend has been helping me out the past few week with getting my BLM AF3+2.

The LS had been trying to get me to go along to skirmish during this time but I was worried I would not be pulling my weight due to my equipment so I had declined.

Getting to 4/5 on my AF I decied I would give it a shot. I went along and guess I did 'OK', I am not quite sure how this skirmish stuff is meant to work but I just spammed Stone or Water on the MOBs whilst trying to make some new macros for it on the fly.

So the runs were going well and a Staff (Lehbrailg) dropped, I was under the (false) impression that all the weapons were 'free lot', so I lotted on it, and for once I won.

Then my friend asks if I just lotted on the staff, I said yes cos I thought it was free lot. My friend said it was not, as it was there run, and they get to lock out one item, which in this case was the staff. They said not to worry about it, it was no big deal, but now I feel, really, really guilty. Is there a way to contact a GM or something and get the item transfered? Or a way for me to make it up to my friend in some way?

Unless they specifically said that particular item was "locked" and "not free lot" then you should be ok.
(As long as they are sure that you understood that when they invited you anyway.)

If they didn't make sure you understood the lotting conditions before you entered and you agreed with it then it should be their fault for not explaining what they expected from you when you came with them.

They said in the end "don't worry about it" so take their advice!
They can try again for the item!

Nope GMs can't do that. Only way would be to put up a few pops and hope the staff drops again.

Something similar happened to me a few years back in Dynamis Windurst, to cut along story short I helped out the LS involved and as many of its people as often as I could for weeks afterwards suchch was my guilt, ththey saw I wasnt just in it for what I could get and I think time actually trusted me again. Maybe just try and help them out a bit to show how you feel, give it a week or so and people will have forgotten.

Nope. Just keep doing more skirmish, it won't be hard to get another, especially if you use higher tier torsos.

Offer to buy/build a pop set for the person who had locked out that staff to make up for it. Fair is fair.

BTW don't +1 that staff if it's for BLM. The NQ staff is, oddly enough, the better BLM staff. Only HQ it if you also use RDM or BRD and need a crapton of MACC from the augments.

Confusion happens. As long as you don't ever, ever do it again, most people will accept that mistakes happen. Just be more careful in the future.

If they didn't see you lot it, and didn't say anything til it hit your inventory, it's their failure more than yours.

Unless your was the last lot, then usually you might get the hint when everybody passed an item, but then it's still the leader's, or whoever had it locked, fault for lotting before everyone else had passed.

tl;dr they didn't practice any lotting safety to keep you from doing that, ergo deserved to have it stolen even by accident.

Huh. Never noticed that the MAB on that actually goes down...

I wouldn't say though that the +1 is necessarily worse, it just encourages a different tactic (repeatedly spamming lower tier nukes instead of using your higher tier ones)

Okay yeah see this opposite ******* argument. We don't know what type of communications they did or what they thought people were aware of. Blaming them for not being able to control the action of everyone in the alliance is no less of a **** move than blaming someone who lots something that wasn't free. If the OP gets the benefit of the doubt that he acted in good faith, then the people setting up the run deserve it too.

Except I didn't give the OP any assumption of good faith. I take it that he either missed any discussion, or it was in the shout for the pug, or nothing was said at all, and he patently lotted something he shouldn't have. My direct assertion, though, is that anybody locking/claiming/dibs'ing an item better damned well be making sure they know when it's in the pool and that they'll be getting it.

That's the thing though: If you're pugging anything and you've got an item picked out for yourself, you (or the leader) should be the last one to lot. Anyone that doesn't pass or lot before time starts getting slim gets kicked, end of story. This was hard policy even among my linkshell members up through Abyssea for a long time, I don't see how Skirmish is different.

Anyway, it's just as likely OP didn't actually lot it and it free-fell to him while everyone but him and the leader passed, and OP simplly misremembers lotting it (Hanlon's Razor). Also possible that the leader is a lying douche and hadn't said anything prior to the moment the staff went to OP (Occam's Razor). There's plenty of possibilities if you discount the statements of anyone involved, but in the end it most easily boils down to: Whoever wanted that staff didn't use safe lotting practices.

Well, lemme put out another story here. This is one of those that it was douchebag kinda thing.

Okay, some friends of mine do a Skirmish; the guy's pop this is wants gloves. Okay, I won't lot those. But there's a person there that's NOT on skype and is not really reading the text it seems. (Not naming names; I didn't think this guy'd do this b/c I drove my brother's chara for dyna with this guy in the same shell) Guess who lotted gloves and people got mad?

..The guy who wasn't paying attention, and he got them ><

Not saying you were a douche, esp since they said it was okay. I do suggest if this was a heat of the moment accident and they didn't say that staff was locked(it sounds like it), that you buy the guy a new pop just as a apology. Since they said don't worry about it..they prolly will be surprised but it's the honest thing to do. Unlike that idiot who not only lotted it, but logged off realfast after...(which might be a admission of guilt/lewtwhore. No one likes that.)
