Missable items ?Follow

#1 Aug 09 2013 at 12:05 PM Rating: Good
Hello.
I am new to ffxi, and I am pretty extreme when it comes to complete a game, even an mmo that involve to spend month to get a single item.

First of all, I wanted to know if anything can be "missed" in the game ? From cutscenes to quests or missions (don't even know the difference between the 2..), item, spell, some texts by some npcs, and so on.

I know this is a mmo and the game may not be designed to achieve everything but I'm sure there are other completionists like me on those forums :p

I would also like to have some confirmations on some basic stuff : let's say I make a red mage, level him to max level, after this can I level a black mage to max level with the same character and make as if it was the first job I leveled ? In other words is it written somewhere that your character was a red mage first.

As I am a beginner, I would like to have a newbie question : How are you supposed to level up when you are level 13, do you have to play with other player, and if that's the case how the hell do you find other player to level up ? I'm on Asura. Sorry :(

Thanks a lot :)

There are no miss-able item/quests/cutscenes.

There are no restrictions on changing jobs other than needing a Moogle to do so.

Leveling past level 10 is mostly done in Grounds of Valor alliances. The first one you should try to join at Lv 10 is in Gusgen mines. Usually there's at least 1 chatty guy in the ally that won't mind a litany of new player questions.

There's some differences. Level caps come to mind. The first one is level 50 and continue every 5 levels up to 95. You only do these once. The only repeatable one of these is the 70 cap fights. The first time you do this fight you're level capped at 70. For any job after that there isn't a level cap since you've broken it. Doing the 70 cap with the 15 jobs that were out with the Rise of the Zilart expansion rewards you the infamous Maat's Cap (Maat is the person you fight for the 70 caps).

As for leveling people do GoV

For my server at least the early GoV zones are only populated during US prime time. The higher level ones have a lot of JP during their prime time.

GoV is pretty simple. If you're 10-40 go to Gusgen mines. Its east of the Dem crag in Konschtat Highlands. Once inside stop by the Grounds Tome and pick up page 1 then throw up your party flag and then do a /shout Asking to join the party.

You know, when I got my Maat's Cap, the first time I was gonna use it, I was with a friend, and we were in Abyssea. I asked if she wanted a teleport to Jeuno, and was all proud as I used the item...and it left her in Abyssea! Smiley: lol

They should change the name of the enchantment to "Warp: Ru'Lude Gardens"!

Only missable items are holiday/event items. For the most part, they're usually vanity pieces.

Yeah, holiday items are the only missables. And usually, even then, you simply have to wait until the holiday returns the next year. The only exception is probably the anniversary events (which give different EXP rings), but even then I *think* they allow you to somehow get previous years' little outfits.

I'll drive you crazy. At level 18, you can undertake a quest to unlock your subjob. The catch is that there are 2 quests to accomplish this, but you can only ever flag one. Know that there shall always be a quest that you can never do. Mwah - hah -hah

There are a few optional bits of dialog here and there as well. Usually if you forgot what you were supposed to do, you can go back to the NPC that issued you the quest or mission and they'll get exasperated with you and tell you what you forgot to do - or just repeat the last line of the quest. Somethings, though, there are other NPCs that will give you a clue, but the dialog is optional and you can finish the quest or mission without talking to them. That's rare.

There's one title you only have one shot at getting, and that's Toxic Tumbler. If you try to swim in the river in Foret de Henetial before acquiring your "Watercrafting" KI, you end up passed out on the beach with that title. After you get your KIs, you never have the option to get that title again.

I actually just dived in the river, and I have had watercraft and watercrafting for quite some time. Got title Toxin Tussler, and woke up on beach.

Is that different than Toxin Tumbler?

There is a gil reward you can miss in the Voidwatch questlines if you don't talk to the Jeuno gate in the past before starting the next quest.

Oh, nevermind. How did you get the choice to appear again? I think I mis-remembered the title itself.

I had never taken the choice before, I had always played it safe Smiley: lol

I don't know if it's a 100% drop, but the Lilith Rod from the NM during the Blue Ribbon quest. Obscure quest I know, but it grants you backdoor access to T. Canal.

You can actually miss it. That was rather anti-climactic when i did it, building up the coloured ribbons only to not get the one thing i did it for.

Most quests you can just redo on a mule-character again without too much hassle. If you did your subjob in Selbina, you can do your mule's subjob in Mhaura, etc.

There's a bunch of non-repeatable quests where your reward is a choice, basicly locking you out from any of the other choices. But these ALWAYS involve irrelevant items you can simply obtain elsewhere as monster drops or craftables on the AH.

The only actual missable items are the Event ones. For example, back in 2005 we had this Blitz Buffalo thing that gave you a nice Dash Sash with Enmity+2 on it. You could only obtain that the year it came out, it came back in a diffirent form (Blazing Buffalo's) with diffirent rewards. Back when enmity options on the waist were rare, you were truly lucky to have one. (I believe i tossed mine at one point ._.; )

A lot of special events get repeated once a year for a specific period, but there have been plenty of cases where an event only happened ONCE and henceforward never again.

Also the items come to mind from visiting the physical Conventions (which, unfairly ofcourse only seem to happen in Japan). Nomad Moogle's Shield comes to mind and similar things like it. You can only obtain it once, or not at all.

Last thing i can think of are the collectable rewards from the physical purchases. I dont think anyone can still get that moghouse Piano for instance you got when you bought the soundtrack, or any of those other (pre-order) rewards from longer than a year ago.

Either way, crapload of items you can miss or not obtain unfortunately ._.;

Not really missable, but you'd have to delevel if you took all your jobs above the limits... unless level sync works with it... but The Gustaberg Tour and The Kuftal Tour....

Thanks for your answers.

If I sum up, here is what is missable in the game :

1) Optional dialogs. The question is then, does those npcs telling those texts have only one type of dialog or do they tell something different after you speak to them for the second time ? That would mean speaking to them at least one time has to be done if you want everything perfect.

2) Toxic Tumbler title and Lilith Rod. Thanks a lot for this :)

3) A gil reward in the Voidwatch questlines. Question is : Does the game consider the gain of the reward done or undone if you don't get the gil reward after finishing the questline ? (in other words, does SE keep tracks of this on their database, or do they consider it as the same state - done or undone - after finishing the quests on the character)

4) Event items, but that was expected, not counting it for the moment as it is not part of the "regular" content.
