What do you mean exactly by +1's and +2's? There are a number of items in the game that those fall under, so could you be more specific?

+2 Abyssea gear is still very good as a whole set for some jobs, although for other jobs it's been replaced piecemeal if not wholesale for entire macro sets (e.g. by bayld gear for weapon skills on most melee jobs.)

The +1 gear is, obviously, a notch below that. What you could probably do is build up bayld and replace the +1 slots with bayld gear and leave the +2 in place until you get an opportunity to start replacing it with the "better" pieces for various macro sets, whether that's bayld or NNI or plasm or what have you.

Assuming, of course, you bought SoA. Otherwise, your best bet is try to upgrade those +1s to +2 as soon as possible.

The problem for returning player, to me, seems to go like this:

1.) I don't have much/any +1/2 abby gear for my jobs... let me look up how to get it.
2.) Well, that doesn't sound like something I can do alone, unless I have a leveled, geared BST with Astolfos, etc.
3.) I don't have a LS, or anyone to help me get this gear because I only just reactivated.
4.) Yay, I got a LS... but they're doing the new content, not this abby stuff that I need.
5.) Without decent gear, I'm not really helpful for the new content... so I can't get any of that gear either.

There's a bit of a re-entry barrier for anyone who comes back from a lengthy hiatus. I'm experiencing it now myself (Bismarck server, if anyone wants to link up and work on accomplishing some earlier content to get caught up with the "new game"). I reactivated recently, JUST installed SoA and still have no idea how to even get to Adoulin nor what I would do there once I did. I hear people taking about Reives and Delves and have no idea what it is. Ditto NNI. I'm lost. I barely know the abbysea stuff that I'm trying to get my hands on, from when I last played, and it's hardly even relevant anymore. I've been going to an abby zone, doing some quests that have <5% drop rates on certain seals, zoning out of abby, zoning back in and repeating because I have no idea how else to get myself up to speed.

You really don't need bst with 2x alstolfos. 99 and Atma of the Ducal Guard is plenty especially paired with a regen atma.

I recently came back to the game after 2 years to see how easy it is to get AF3 stuff. Most zones are dead except the occasional farmer and exp group. I am on Bismarck too. I didn't buy SoA yet, but intend to soon.

I still see shouts for Empy Seal farming on Odin regularly. If BST isn't to your liking, NIN and DNC are excelent at soloing Abyssea mobs too. A THF and a BLM/(RDM/WHM/SCH) can duo many popular seal NMs as well, and with that combo you've got TH and Yellow procs. Many other job configurations can low-man seals too.

this is pretty much my problem as well, i just find it a lot more difficult to get help doing the older equipment, if it was soloable it would be a lot easier, and i can understand other people doing the new stuff to get their new items so it just feels like a sucky situation for me and leaves me stranded in jueno

As to the OP's question, you can do just about anything if you have +1 Abyssea gear (again, assuming that is what you are referring to), despite what the nay-sayers here suggest (the game is extremely easy for most content and not too gear dependent aside from a good weapon and some of the 'basic' AF/Relic type job-specific items you'll see large ability gains from). As long as you are constantly pushing forward in a game like this there won't be much that can hold you back, but if you plan to have your hand held and go into fights without researching strategies for success ahead of time, you will be dead weight regardless of what your gear looks like.

If I could stress one thing to you (and I don't mean to sound condescending) it'd be to use clearer communication. if you don't communicate more clearly than the original post, you'll have a hard time seeing success because people just won't know what you want, let alone how help you. Lack of communication also makes it harder to make friends, and this game without friends is ... a really bad idea.

It is soloable for several jobs, and duoable for every other job. Seriously, you'll pick it up quick if you go out and start doing it. And if you see a shout group, join in. You're never gonna get to end game if you just sit in Jeuno.

BST is to my liking, but I'm starting it from scratch (lvl 27 now) to try and get there, just so I can get gear for other jobs, just so I can participate in the kinds of activities most of the population is doing. I haven't seen more than maybe three random shouts for seal farming on my server since coming back, though I don't doubt that it's different on yours. I do remember seeing tons prior to quitting, but the only thing I really see shouts for now are Reives and things I haven't heard of.

The problem though, with leveling BST is that once I do that, I still need some kind of passable gear and such for the BST in order to really make progress towards gearing my other jobs, and even then, I don't see myself being able to solo the kinds of mobs that drop +2 items (unless I'm underestimating BST here). But my point was more just to sympathize with the OP - it's very hard to re-enter the game with no friends and try to pick up your level 90 job with no relevant gear and get caught up on your own, without doing significant leg work to enable yourself to solo (which is fine, it's doable) or finding some helpful folks to play with who aren't focused solely on the newer content. I, personally, am making progress on my gear, questing for seals, joining dom-ops parties and getting in one of the random shouts I mentioned, but it's still not the same as prior to quitting, when I had an active LS that was usually doing abby stuff and I could hop in and get what I needed and help others do the same. Now I feel largely like I'm playing solo all the time.

As for the OP (or anyone else who'd be interested in CoP/Abby/VW etc.), if you're on Bismarck my name's Craine and I'd be happy to have some company and even assist you to the best of my abilities. I already have a couple of jobs geared up (THF, and sorta BLU) from prior to quitting and if I had a couple of friends on the server who needed stuff as well, we definitely could low man things, as other posters mentioned.

It's a shame I just started a new RL job because I can solo most +1 seal monsters on my THF, and dual box the rest of em with my 2nd account. Unfortunately I'm back to working 45 hours through the week.

Hopefully I can catch you this weekend and we can knock some stuff out :)

Sure most things are soloable, but no proc could make things painfully long. So at least try to find a blm partner to help speed things up.

Takes infinitely longer not doing anything though.

I lucked out in this regard. When I came back after a 3 year break (characters at 75 cap), I had ONE person from my FL still on, someone I had played the game with since my first day back in 2002. He had taken short breaks here and there, but had been back on the game for over a year when I got back and was caught up with all his stuff. He has no interest in Delve, but wants to weait and see how the next few updates go, so he's been helping me a lot. We also run Salvage as him, his whm alt, and me. I also joined an LS that does plasm runs and prioritizes LS members, even if they aren't "leet."

That being said, I did quite a bit of work on my own. I've shouted countless times for seals/+2 item farming and got all the +2 items for my sam in groups I built or joined. I do my coalition assignments every day to keep my bayld up for gear and Wildskeeper Reive KI's. Started the NNI runs that got me 2 pieces of phorcys gear, then joined other shouts. Gold chested a lot of pop items for Aby mobs and my Dark Rings. Ran all but 1 Hahava run trying to get a Ganeshas Mala (0/102 now >.>) and some Kaggen runs (0/66). I'm currently working through soloing the WotG mission on sam/dnc for the TP Bonus earring.

Some luck is definitely involved with some of this stuff, but no one is going to hand you anything in the game anymore. I'm not saying you're expecting someone to hold your hand, just trying to let you know what kind of situation you're looking at.
