Introduction & LinkshellFollow

Hello Everyone,

I had just purchased Final Fantasy XI recently as I had played it a few years ago at a friends and really loved the game. Never got a chance to have an account of my own though and with Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn releasing this august(Already pre-ordered, can't wait!) it made me want to go back and experience the first MMO.

I am the type of gamer who likes to earn everything themselves, I am not looking for handouts. I decided to sign up to these forums because it seems like a community of great people and I would love to have some good companions to chat about the game with and possibly meet some people to play in game with.

Could anyone recommend a server that is pretty lively? I am also looking into finding a linkshell.

Some research I have done on my own:

1) Cooking is a great beginner craft to get buff food. Also drink milk/juices for passive MP/HP regen to make it easier to solo.
2) After level 20, it's very much a group game? Excited for this!
3) Level on easy prey mobs at first because even matches will likely be to tough?

Anyway, nice to meet all of you and hope to join you all in game and see you around the forums.

Welcome to ffxi, hope you enjoy it as much as you are looking forward to it. Outside the starter city gates, where you fight, you will find a floating book, this system is known as fields of valor, talk to the book and select page 1, kill the mobs for page 1 rinse and repeat. This will make soloing much faster - after you have done 1 page you can get similar buffs as if you were to eat food with the points it awards, known as tabs. You can also get a 1hp/1mp per tick regen/refresh from it which lasts an hour i think much better at low levels than milks or juices.
