So I know this probably belongs in 14s forum but I figured I'd share with the 11 community. It was just announced at Sonys E3 conference that 14 will be on both the PS3 and PS4. How 'bout them apples. Throws a bit of a wrench into things if you ask me.
Wrench in what? Why?
Well the fact that its gonna be on both systems is a bit interesting. Those who might be looking to venture into 14 now has to decide to either go with the ps3 or 4. Also what does this mean for its future. By that I mean what happens if 14 gets to big that the ps3 can't handle it(like 11 and ps2). I don't know I think it's interesting.
I guess it could bring in a new audience that only owes a PS4 and neither a decent PC or PS3. It might also allow us to avoid the same PS3 limitation type of problems. The biggest market for FFXI on the PS2 is in Japan, but I believe it was found that most of the JP would gladly drop PS2 support if they could move to PS3.
Since it's already on the PC though it will (eventually) experience the same issues FFXI has with the PS2, assuming it lives long enough. The bigger difference is that the PS3 doesn't have external hardware that is required for FFXI. Even besides PS2 limitations, finding hard drives and fat PS2s has become impossible. In the end though, I don't think it really means much of anything for FFXIV.

Yea that's all true. But I'm wondering if the ps4 version is gonna be different than the ps3 one. Like graphics wise is it gonna look cleaner/sharper. You already see a huge difference in capability between the two systems.
It probably will look different/better on PS4. They'll be releasing a DX11 high end client for PCs, too, probably around Christmas or January 2014.

Yes. PC, PS3, and now PS4.
No Xbox this go round though. No Wii U either (at this time.)
I believe Xbox wanted control of the servers or something, so any plans for that console have been put off.
I don't think FFXIV will take people away from FFXI... but I do think a lot of people will give FFXIV a try, and probably end up playing both. They are two very different kinds of games.

so in about a year or two after release, the go around excuss gonna be "due to ps3/ps4 limitations, we cant do such and such"?
You wouldn't see PS4 limitations for at least 10 years.
This MMO was developed for the PS3 though, which only has 512 MB of RAM, so yea... those will probably show up shortly after release

Actually ffxiv will be Sony exclusive. Did they say that for XI too? I can't remember. But I do know there's a possibility Xbox owners may never see XIV.
It's definitely smart for SE to do this since they're coming in extremely late into the PS3's life cycle. It's doubly smart to ignore the Xbone, as M$ has seemingly gone full ******.
