Having Issues Registering for the 14 Day TrialFollow

#1 Jun 07 2013 at 9:27 PM Rating: Decent
Hello. Three friends and I decided to try out FFXI, but we've all gotten the same error "You have exceeded the maximum number of registrations per your IP."

I noticed someone else in the forum had the same issue, but I didn't see an answer to the problem in the thread. Is there any way that the four of us can still register?

I think you'd just need to connect to a different network to make the last one. This sounds like a measure to try to slow down gold farmers from crating multiple accounts quickly, I've seem lots of things like email providers use similar tactics.

I'd suggest setting up a smartphone as a wireless access point if that's an option for you, Otherwise, try connecting to a friend's network to make the account.

I have no solution and I've only started hearing about this problem recently, but I do have some questions.

What region are you located in? North America, Asia, Japan, Pacific, Europe, etc.

Were any 4 of you able to register? Are you registering from the same or different locations?

I would contact customer service if possible and try to talk to a couple agents if you feel anything is off. No one there is trying to scam you, but SE's reps can be pretty clueless sometimes.

To answer the questions I was asked:
We're all in North America, but we're all using different networks (The other three live on the other side of the country)
Setting up another network isn't an option, I don't own a smartphone. (Also, that answer was a pretty bad one considering it's a problem that EVERYONE is having apparently)

If anyone would be kind enough to send me a 30 day code, it would be greatly appreciated.

Also, Daiskylit, I saw your other posts. Calm down and be respectful for goodness' sake.

A warning about the 14 day trials: It's very limited. The character is unable to communicate easily, is level locked, can't have more than a few thousand gil, can't sell stuff on the AH, etc. The 14 trial can give you a small taste of XI's in game mechanics, but honestly there isn't anything particularly interesting about how the game is played, especially at low levels. (You hit stuff, you get your *** kicked by a rabbit, you eventually grow strong enough to kill the rabbits, you learn new skills, get better gear, etc. Same as any other game.)

The free trial will not show you XI's real strength, which is a deep and involving storyline with five expansions and lore so in-depth these days that it will take you six months just to get through a chunk of it.

I'd recommend keeping an eye out for the inevitable sales and price drops on the latest Ultimate Collection, which includes all the expansions. Right now it's $40 but when it goes on sale you can probably snag it for half that, and eventually SE will drop the price down to $10.

Yeah to be honest with the structure of the trial I feel like it is more likely to make people decide NOT to play the game than to play it.

This is an error in your web browser, correct?
What browser/plugins are you using? and have you tried different browsers?

I'm seeing the error in my browser when I simply try to request a code from
http://finalfantasyxi.com/freetrial/home/register

If this isn't a problem created by a browser/plugin, then my guess is that SE has allocated X number of codes to a region or internet provider and they have simply run out. If this is the case, it could be a result of SE's laziness or someone suddenly wanted hundreds of free trial characters.

I know this error is frustrating, but it was almost certainly the result of anti-RMT policies. Hopefully someone will have some free 30-day codes for you to use.

Do you have the game or do you need codes to download the game? The 2008 codes for the Ps2 and 360 only go to Wotg i'm saving those "no reason". I found one last sealed 30day pc starter game disc that predate 2007.I gave a couple of those away in forum years ago,but to people that had the pc game and needed codes.

Yeah, I don't own the game sadly. I needed the code to download it.

Actually, you don't need the code to download it.. you need the code to play it. Even though I was not given a code to my email address like was supposed to happen, it let me download the game fine..

I am also having issues with this and I have tried a different browser, using my smartphone as an access point, resetting IP, even going to a friends house that only plays WoW lol and tried accessing the free trial page from her internet, which all of the above and I'm still getting the error message. Would anyone be as kind as to please provide me with a 30 day code so I may see how the game works on my pc and if I like it, before I buy it? It would be very much appreciated! Please send me a message on here if anyone has one, ty so very much!

It's a crazy coincidence that I happened to be looking to play the trial when the same thing happened to me, and this thread was created only just two days ago. I remember when I was in high school, I wanted to play both this and SWG when they came out, but I didn't get allowance (And what I did get on rare occasion went toward pot and hanging out with friends) and I wasn't allowed to get a job, so I couldn't afford the sub. After time, you forget about these things and being 24 now, the pang to try FFXI just hit me out of nowhere. It would be excellent if someone had a 30-day to offer to me as well.

We don't have 30 day codes. I mean seriously. I had 1 spare one from buying a copy for xbox (given away already, don't even ask) but your chances of someone giving you a code that costs like 40 bucks currently are slim. If you really don't want to put out the dollars, wait a couple months and it will go on sale, but there are no "30 day codes" that aren't full copies of the game.

If you were a forum regular and I had an extra code, I'd be happy to give it away, but just coming on here and asking for a free copy of the game when you could be RMT for all we know, is sort of silly. Heck, even if you weren't RMT, giving a full install to someone who isn't sure whether they even want to play is something I wouldn't do anyway.

Either wait for awhile look for sales (they do happen) or buck up and invest in the game.

And FU to SE for saying you have a 14 day trial, and then not really having one. Gawd the company is irritating.

Actually, it seems the 30 day buddy passes included in the old copies of the Vanadiel Collection 2008, etc, might still be valid. Might.

The only way anyone would have that is if they kept an email from 2008 and repurchased the full Vanadiel Collection. I think they stopped sending out Buddy Passes when they switched to the Destrier beret with the Abyssea Ultimate collection.

RMT?! Well I'm certainly not Registered, but I can provide a little bit of Massage Therapy if the price is right! Seriously though, I have no idea what RMT means. I figured I'd look ridiculous 1-posting a random site for a 30-day, but it's always worth the try.

"Real Money Traders" aka "gold farmers."

Square Enix made a serious effort to purge the game of the gold farmers. They were not 100% successful, unfortunately.

RMT = real money trader

Simply, it refers to players who earn lots of in-game currency then sell it for real world money. In the past, this practice caused a lot of problems for FFXI, which is one of the reasons for the obscene restrictions that come with the 14-day trials.

I don't know why anyone would assume you're involved with RMT, but being a new account is one common factor (of several others, which you don't meet) for RMT on a site like this. You made the right choice to ask here. Since your post is readable and shows no insults, most everyone will not have a problem with your post.

As mentioned, the 30-day trial passes are rare, so we may not have one to give, but I hope someone will have a spare you will be able to use.

I have an old buddy pass that I never used from the 2008 collection. Not sure how they work exactly but it says 30 days free. Install the game from http://www.fileplanet.com/186860/180000/fileinfo/FINAL-FANTASY-XI-Buddy-Client. I'll PM you the reg code.

Edit: Appearently that link no longer works. It was from 2008 so... I guess you have to find a torrent or something but the code I sent should be good.

Thx Broken Wheel. After fumbling about with setting up square enix accounts and downloading the Play Online client, I was finally able to input the code to acquire the 30-day FFXI account. Now I can't find anywhere to download the FFXI client, so if anyone could point me in the right direction, I'd be grateful. Thanks in advance.

If you're not opposed to the notion, you're free to download the game through torrents.

For the most part, no one cares since downloading the game doesn't get you anywhere. If you wanted to play the game officially, you would still need to purchase a copy for the registration codes then pay subscription fees as well.

As you're setting up, try to join a guild/linkshell through this (or another any ffxi-related) forum. This group will help you choose a server and make the game significantly more enjoyable.

EDIT: It's working! IT'S WORKING!!!

It seems I'm meant to be thwarted at every turn (Short of breaking the law, which I won't do). My cousin had his discs from back in the day, but while Brokenwheel's code unlocked access to a pol account for me, I don't have a content ID, and SE wants $11.85 from me. So my guess is that it wasn't a 30-day code. I don't know. At that point, I might as well just buy the full game...

I'm not seeing what you're seeing, so I could be wrong, but

You will need the Content ID, but since you used the 30-day pass, it's possible you won't be charged the first month. I know even when I started, despite having 30 free days, I was still required to give them my CC information. Had I cancelled my content ID before the end of those 30 days, there would have been no charge.

Again, I don't know what you're seeing, so don't take this as any kind of guarantee.
#25 Jun 09 2013 at 10:51 PM Rating: Decent
Yep, I went back and found out this was the case. I am charge-free and updating as we speak!
