getting back to the past?Follow

#1 Jun 03 2013 at 11:31 AM Rating: Decent
I entered the maw in Sauromuge Champaign and began the quest Cavernous Maw, received the white feather, and am now on the quest Back to the beginning. When I was transported to the past, I aggroed a goblin and died without reactivating/touching another maw. I've been to the three main maws (Sauromunge, Rolanberry, and Batilla) but am not able to get back into any of them.

How do I get back to the past when no maws are active? I really want to unlock dnc.

You should be able to get back to the past by using the maw in the random zone that you came out of when you first went to the past.

Double check the zone that you got dropped into when you started the mission, that's the maw that you should be able to use.

While other maws would not be active, the maw that you are ejected from into the past is active. So if you were ejected into Sauromugue Champaign (S), then that maw would be active to you, no matter what.

Yes I understand that the maw is active in the past. Say I was ejected into Sauromogue (S) and that maw is active, how do I get back there to return to the present? I have been to all the maws in the random zones and none are active for me to get back to the past.

Any maw will allow you to travel from Past -> Present.

Only maws you have used in the Past are activated and will work Present -> Past.

In order to prevent being locked out, the first maw you are ejected from will be activated. If you were ejected from Sauromogue (S) during the CS and did not use any other maws, then you need to return to that maw in the present.

If you are unsure which zone you were ejected from, it will always be one of the three zones surrounding Jeuno.

Um... you need 3 friends. Or a friend with access to the past, Tractor, and a job you can die on in Saurumunge.

You needed to re-enter the present via that maw. If you warped back, you are locked out of the three others until you pass back to the present through that maw. Your only options are to pass through the Citadel gates or to die and be tractored onto the ridge. If you happen to be on Bahamut, hit me with a tell, I can see what I can do.

SE actually added a fix for this. There is now a key item that can be found from a ??? in one of the rooms near the entrance of GC. (Pouch of weighted stones I believe). With this, you can open the banishing gates solo (and from both sides too) so getting 3 others to help isn't a requirement anymore.

Now they just need an adjustment to the Necropolis levers.

I've visited the three maws in the present and am unable to use them. My question is how do I get back to the past when I'm locked out of those three maws around jeuno?

Sounds like a GM call might be in order at this point.

That's the thing though, you shouldn't be locked out of all three of them. Two of them yes, but you traveled into the past through one of them, so no matter what, you should be able to travel back and forth through that one.

Yes I went into one, but I never came back to the present through it. So it is still locked.

After the CS, you appear in front of a maw in some (S) area, which I believe is random. It does not matter if you used the maw to go back to the present, it should be unlocked by design in the present. During WotG release, this was not an uncommon situation, so it is a situation many of us are familiar with.

As mentioned though, if you have checked all three cavernous maws (Battalia, Sauromugue Champaign, Rolanberry Fields) in the PRESENT and were NOT given the choice to enter the maw, then this is a bug and you need to speak with a GM.

How long ago did you enter the past? Are you a returning player? If its been awhile do you currently have Wings of the Goddess installed?

That particular one is unlocked automatically, even if you never returned to the present with it. I had the same thing happen when I first traveled to the past. I was spat out into Sauromugue and died before I had a chance to go through another maw (or go back through that one). I wasn't able to reraise or anything, so I home pointed, managed to get my way to the Sauromugue maw in the present, and it let me through.

There is a similar key item for Quicksand Caves, if you don't have that one either.

I got that one the day after it was announced. I just had not heard of the Citadel one. Likely came out during my hiatus from the game.

Just FYI, one of the ??? in the Citadel is for the Teleport-Dem quest, and both ??? are usually located at G-8. Took me a couple minutes to realize I was standing at the wrong one before I got my pouch of weighted stones.
