The Duo ChallengeFollow

So my friend wants to play FFXI so I think Ill roll a new character with him.

With the decreasing population, leveling isn't going to be too easy until we hit 75 or so. Any recommendation for two classes to play when we start, as far as soloing alone until the time we hit higher marks?

Perhaps BLM and WHM or RDM and WAR? Ill probably start us in Sandy, since I know the starting quests quite well.

Appreciate any input/ideas.

MNK & WHM. Until you get to "endgame" stuff, there is verry little that you can't duo as MNK & WHM.

It's an impossible 1st job, you have to be level 30 to unlock it after 1st up, s/j unlock and level up it'd be a 3rd job.

Thanks. Ill probably try to do it this way... at least until I can get advanced classes.

MNK + WHM can duo 99% of the game until you get to new SoA stuff.

Let me just state that this statement is false. Utterly.

Granted, lowbie gear might be harder to get, but then considering that you can stick to EP/DC spamming, gear is not nearly as important as it used to be, since primarily higher end, +1 gear simply allowed for faster kills on those and the ability to actually hit VT/IT mobs with better than minute damage. But as for level speed? I solo'd a level per hour in GoV at the 40's, and that was on RUN and I wasn't trying to speed my way through it. If you pick the right mobs (for example, if you do go for MNK and WHM, going after bones), you can sail through levels. It will get grindy past, I'd say, 55 just because of the EXP jumps, and you will not match the speed of alliance leveling at all, but duoing/low manning exp was the aim of the EXP buffs and FoV/GoV to begin with. The community just decided to abuse the living goddamn hell out of said mechanic.

Alliance leveling, at the beginning just doesnt seem possible on my server. I remember getting to level 40 in almost no time at all, perhaps even in one go. But Im going to start our new characters on Bahamut or Asura I think. Whichever I can find a lower level Ls for.

That being said, my FFXI experience was never extensive, reaching only into the upper 60's with few advanced classes.

Depending on where you mark the "beginning", honestly you don't really need it. 1-30 is an utter sprint if you just check the FoV's/GoV's available local to your starting area. Your mileage varies based on your region. I doubt it would take you longer than an afternoon to get at least 18 or 20 in a duo if you plan it right.
