Quick help for returningFollow

Trying to reinstall when I notice I'm missing the "Game Disc" which tends to be very important.

My questions:

Did SE ever release an official game download (other than the Windows Vista POL)?
Should I just buy the steam version with Alduin for 40?

The reason I'm wary of the Steam version is, I've heard people have had issues with it. Is the Steam version less of a hassle to install?

Hmm, that's also an option. The only reason I'm partial to Steam is the convenience of the library list.

From what I've read on the forums, once you have FFXI up and running through Steam, there tends to be no other problems. I've seen occasional requests for help when Steam installed an incredibly old version of POL, but I don't think it was difficult to fix and might no longer be an issue with the newest FFXI collection. A few others have trouble with obtaining registration codes, but I've seen fewer of those, so I don't how big of an issue it is.

I don't use Steam, so I can't comment first hand, these are just my observations from the forums over the years.

I have not seen any technical problems when installing through Amazon.

If everything works right, I don't think Steam or Amazon is either particularly difficult or a hassle to install.

Most of the Steam issues came from having the serial #'s not showing up, certain updates going south, and some settings not being saved.

I haven't seen anything of late, so I'd expect that it was just some initial launch issues.
