Returning after WotG - a few questionsFollow

I last played FFXI when WotG was released but last night I signed back up to give the game another whirl. I have a few questions to any who could take a moment to answer, or at least point me in the right direction:
1) I have heard that abyssea makes levelling very fast, now. I never got over 70 in all the time I played and still haven't beat Maat. Is that quest still a limitation to progress? Are there level caps every 5 levels beyond 75 as well? Also, do merits come into play at 75 or do we have to get to 99 now to start merits?

2) I really don't remember how to get around or what new areas have come up. It seems I've missed 6 mini-expansions and one brand new, full expansion. Is there a place that summarizes what has changed over time?

3) Is Jeuno still the main hub of activity? The primary AH? Or are all the AHs merged by now? Is all my gear from pre-WotG likely useless by now? Will I need to farm gil to support my (supposedly) rapid levelling?

Many thanks for any advice you can give me regarding these issues.

1. You still need to beat Maat. However, that's a one time deal as it was before. There are indeed quests every 5 levels after that, but all but the level 95 one are much easier than Maat. You can start earning merits at level 75 still, and in fact need to as merits are part of the 80-95 limit breaks.

2. There's a sticky at the top of this forum that has some useful info on the changes.

3. Jeuno is still the main hub. All AHs are now merged. Your gear is probably useless, but some pieces are still good - it depends on your job. Gil is easy to come by at any level if you farm crystals.
