I'm sorry if this is an overposted redundant topic but, I'm coming back to the game, got everything installed, even going to get my old chr back ^^, but I have to pay, were'nt you able to just use your CC? Now their is some new system set up I guess, so am I able to go to gamestop or walmart and get a $20 card and just redeem it on the ffxi site, or do I have to register for another site, redeem it there and then link it or something to ffxi? I'm confused.
Once you're all set up you can pay SE directly with a credit card.
If you have to pay any outstanding fees or anything of that sort, you have to use an external payment method to do that. Either clickandbuy or UltimatePay.
BTW: If you do have to do that and you live in the US, use UltimatePay and pay through Paypal. Registering a clickandbuy account got my credit card locked down because they're based in the UK.

I downloaded a full copy SoA and after 7 hours from buying and fumbling over the entire process I made a new account. :)

When you get nostalgic you don't tend to remember the hoops you jump through just to login for the first time.
BTW this is the first time I have purchased a digital download, what happens if/when the laptop I downloaded it to dies?
Can I go back to SE store and download it again without buying a new copy? :(

Ok so I went and bought an Ultimate Play card and used that to add crysta, it was pretty easy, also had to go through a whole mess of things, but I ended getting my old account updated, ended up getting the play online mail updated and I have my old chr activated again, so I'll need a linkshell "I'm on the quezencotl server name Guildedlady" ^^. Another question I have is about all the new content, I'm only up to wings of the goddess so I was looking before I came to work this morning and saw that there were like, 7 add ons that I don't have, how do I obtain them, or do they all come w/ the new expansion? Anyway I'm excited about jumping back into the game, Gotta get through the work day XD, oh memories, I checked and my last login day was in 2009 lol.

I made a backup of the install files so I wouldn't have to download it again.

Do they not have a hard copy of the new expanison? I don't really want to do the download q.q
Downloading the expansion is not the problem.
Unless your internet is so unstable that you can't download ~1 GB, you will have no problems with downloading the expansion.
The download problems comes in the form of updates and you will be required to download these even if a hard copy of the game existed.
Because SE has a terrible update system, it is possible to torrent all the updates for NA PC in less than an hour, then install, and avoid any long update times.
Unless your internet is so unstable that you can't download ~1 GB, you will have no problems with downloading the expansion.
The download problems comes in the form of updates and you will be required to download these even if a hard copy of the game existed.

I know I left my comp on last night to update the game and approx 12 hrs later it was almost done, XD even if I don't have the expansion, is the game updated....up to date.... or when I get the expansion and all the the add ons, will it be another 12 hr update?, also isn't the download for the collectors edition around 12 gbs or does it just download what you don't have?

I understand if you buy the expansion direct from square (A EU player, Jahn, told me this) they hide the redownload link and you cannot use the same d/l twice. Eff Digital River!
I can also confirm that if you bought it off Amazon, they don't give you a hassle about downloading it again. I installed it about 3 times (third time was because my install got messed up; had to go though the updates again. Second was on a second pc with same account on it) and no problem with redownloading/reinstalling at all.

worse case scenario if you lose your install you can just torrent it. What matters is that you have access to your POL account/reg codes.
