What major changes have taken place with the new expansion? Follow

Hey guys, Ill keep it short and sweet.

I am a veteran player, played this game 2002-2007 then again for most of the year 2011. I am familiar with the game was until right around early 2012. The last thing I remember is finishing up my AF3+2 (I think it was) on my Dragoon. I wanted to know what major changes happened to the game during this last expansion "Seekers of Adoulin" and if these changes significantly change the way the game is played?

Also I am curious.

What is the "New" end game content ?

What classes are the "gimp classes" right now for most end game content? <-- I know this changes about as frequently as Taylor Swift changes boyfriends.

What are the "Flavor of the month" jobs?

I only ever really enjoyed playing DRG/PUP/COR so I wonder if anything has changed for these 3 jobs at all? Is COR more affordable now lol?

Thanks.

SE doesn't release an entire expansion right from the start. Since the expansion has only been out a month, nothing has really changed and no new end game content has been released.

I am also looking into changing servers...all of my old friends from my current server basically quit the game already. What is the most populated server in the game currently?

As of right now my characters are all in Bismarck.

Bismarck is doing fine.

The servers are of roughly equal population, though ffxiah breaks it down if you're really interested.

But I have no problem seeing people milling around and shouting for things on Bismarck.

Find a linkshell first, create a mule on that server if you want to check out the linkshell before jumping, then if you like what you find, jump to that server.

Regardless of the server size, I strongly do not recommend jumping servers unless you have a contact (like an invitation to a linkshell from a forum).

For endgame, it sort of depends on your definition. The Naakuals might be considered "endgame" to some, although they are essentially a combination between a WoE mob (can be fought by anyone in the area), a VW mob (individual loot distributed to all), and an Abyssea mob (obtain a KI after defeat that is likely used for "progression"). If you considered either WoE, VW, or the Abyssea mini-bosses to be "endgame," then there's the "new" endgame content with this xpac. Personally, I don't consider WoE to be "endgame," but Abyssea or VW were probably considered by some to be such for at least a brief time.

Likewise, Skirmish is comparable to Salvage and Meebles, so if you considered those "endgame," then that would be another example of "new" endgame content introduced with this xpac. Personally, I didn't consider either of those to be endgame, although Salvage was probably considered by some at the time to contain the "standard" for endgame armor.

It almost sounds like outside of just playing the new classes there is really no major reason to buy the expansion right at this moment then. If people are still doing VW and relics then yeah....

People usually take some time to acclimate to new content. There are contingents that dive in and try to finish all the quests and missions right away, and then there are contingents that are content with running old content until more stuff is figured out. There are things to do in the new xpac, but to answer your question: if Skirmish, Naakuals, the new weapons/armor, or new missions and quests don't interest you at the moment, then it's probably safe to skip the xpac or at least wait a couple patches till SE irons out a few kinks.

People will be participating in Voidwatch and building relics until the day this game dies (or we earn lv125, and even then...). SE rarely invalidates old events and the significant changes we went through during Abyssea was their attempt to give us a new starting point for FFXI. It is definitely not a common approach.

The primary reason for buying the expansion now would be to stay caught up with the content. Building up points, ranking up in the new guilds... I can guarantee you that most new events added will be buried behind these and similar tasks.

I think I will resub but hold off from buying the expansion for a month or so until there is more of an incentive for me to do so. At this point I really just want to pick up where I left off, that is getting my AF for my other jobs and my relic for DRG.
